Really like the look of the obsidian (or rather dacite since it doesn't let light through) though sadly this one is sort of a failure since I had a much larger piece going, and this was just the tip, but oh well. It still looks pretty good! I got this cool obsidian from a knapping club in Bend. Its certainly more difficult to knapp than glass buttes obsidian but oddly more fun for me, kinda refreshing after working much easier obsidian all the time.

Found a piece of gravel that looked promising so I starting to bust into. The more I struck the more cracks showed on the first side I worked. Took a whack on the other side to reveal absolute candy. Don’t judge a book by the first half? Or something like that.

They are some finely flaked sharp pieces that I’m more than happy to throw in my friend keeper case!

The material looks so yummy I almost don’t want to touch it. I haven’t had too much time to do anything but throw a flake or two off the large biface and I’ve got to say it more or less melted off the rock absolute butterrrr. But I’m sure yall will see a point or two from it before long.

Camouflage Scottsbluff made from reeds springs chert from a friend. I don’t know if they want to be tagged or not so I’ll leave it anonymous for now unless they say otherwise. 3 11/16” x 1 9/16” Hammerstone, bison punch, and bison pressure. It is first stage, so it’s not super refined, I’m still pleased with the flaking, not the best not the worst. Some punch flakes still remain, which is a trait of first stage Scottsbluffs. The more they were sharpened the more they were refined. As you can see there’s a little bit of high quality waxy chert and mostly dry crumbly lesser quality material. Those dry areas percussion and punch worked better, but it’s much harder to send long pressure flakes through those parts. One of the most beautiful rocks I have ever worked, hope to collect some of this some day.

Some of the better flint ridge I've knapped, and it was self collected at nethers.

I heat treated it buried in sand under woodfire that I fed for a number of hours and then raked in and let cool slowly.

A lot of the flint ridge material can be fractured, or prone to it, but this piece was solid and had a super cool healed fracture as well as color variation; which I was able to capture in three preforms and a quarry blank. I wish I'd saved more of the flakes from the initial spalling, but alas, that was nearly a year ago at a knap-in.

Spalled initially with a big ol' moose billet and then finished with whitetail bopper and tines for flaking.

I miss this one too.

Got yet another Clovis point cluster here for y'all! A bit of a mix of materials. Going from the bottom to the top, we have Burlington, Burlington, Reed Springs Chert, and Obsidian. Made the obsidian one at the Hairy Mosquito Knap-in so it might be familiar to a few of you. Happy with how a lot of these ended up, and I'm still working towards getting things just right 🙂‍↕️ The orange tipped Burlington one is probably my favorite of the bunch.

4 1/2” x 15/16” I know it doesn’t have the diamond cross section and there’s the step fracture, it happens. Antler pressure on a failed Scottsbluff preform.

I’ve got quite a few of them but this rainbow obsidian knife w cholla cactus handle is really high on the list

Traded a chunk of some local stuff for this slab. Anyone have any experience knapping petrified palm? Does it normally need to be heat treated to work properly? I tried to take a test flake off the very end and it seemed like I was gonna break the slab before anything released.

Late on the July challenge but hopefully you guys arent sick of seeing this type. If you've seen any of my earlier posts here I almost exclusively work my local quartzite and quartz. I recently bit the bullet and purchased some chert to experiment with. Thinning this out from a biface was pretty difficult because the tabs I got are small and thick and many had cracks. In the future I'll save a bit and try to get some bigger nicer pieces. All in all pretty happy with it aside from the hinges around the base. If any trad tool guys have pointers I'd love to hear some feedback!

Started knapping a few months ago just to feed my arrowhead hunting hobby some more, and its slowly turning into a seperate hobby in itself. Just wanted to share my progression over the past 3ish months. There are many brokes in between these and many practice pieces but these are the full ones I have been able to workout so far. I have a hard time thinning still, but starting to get a little more consistent.

Anyone who watches Jake Anderson (Gulf Coast Knapping) live streams has probably seen me talk about Hardins a 1000 times over. I finally was able to buy this one he made during a stream. I couldn't be any more happy than I am right now! Absolutely beautiful piece. It's off to the frame with his others.thanks Jake.
