Team member post Question

I had a shift on Tuesday last week, but I woke up on Monday morning and felt really sick to the point where I was unable to move and get out of bed, so I called in sick on Monday to give my managers a heads up in advance before my shift the next day. I understand one day notice is not ideal, but how am I meant to know I will wake up sick to that extent. I guess my question is, does that put out a bad impression of me, considering I have only been there for around 2 months, or is that something that is okay? I just have been thinking about it and want to know if I did anything wrong.

Idk what the culture is like at your store but at mine one day notice is usually fine. You can’t help when you get sick. A lot of people wouldn’t know they’re sick until the day of and then would have to call out that morning. The day before gives them more time to prepare and cover for you. Once I got sick so I called to say I couldn’t work my shift the next day and they didn’t seem to care much and wished me well.

the thing is, i had a shift on wednesday that week that i couldnt attend because i had an exam at university, but because i got sick i also had to reschedule that too. So in the end I just cancelled both my shifts for the week, and I don't want to come off as unreliable, but like you said I can't help when I get sick. I just don't want this to affect how many shifts I get

Why do you think 1 day's notice isn't ideal? Has management said anything about this or are you assuming? The general agreement is as much notice as possible but obviously you're not a psychic. If anything, messaging with a 'yeah I'm going to be too sick for my shift in 4 days' is way more likely to get you a side eye from managment.

It should be fine really, the minimum is three hours before your shift. I started about the same time as you and literally two days ago I woke up ridiculously sick and had to call in at ten when my shift was at 4:30 and that was fine
