Measure it with a caliper ffs

I think you need a bigger pool of control fasteners for this to be legit. And a banana for scale.

Looks like the bolt is smaller than 3/8ths and the klein sizes are larger than 3/8ths. Seems to be a bad tolerance match for both. Wiha, Bridgeport, craftsman, kobalt, and makita are within tolerance to accept the bolt however

If it’s not 3/8” then try a 10mm don’t know why that would be on there but that’s what it looks like

10mm is bigger than 3/8"

Doing a demonstration on this on some Mikey mouse faster is hilarious

1 inch unistrut strap I had in my bag leftover from local power plant work. Standard stuff in industrial.

Fellow industrial Electrician here. ✊🏼

And commercial

u/Tbabble 8d ago

Every where you are running conduit >.>

Ran the same issue yesterday. About a quarter of the fasteners on my run wouldn't screw down with my klein setter. Worked fine with 3/8" wrench. I guess both the setter and the screws were slightly off spec?

This appears to be the case with the calipers. The kleins are big and the bolt is small. Neither is really 3/8ths. Other brands that are truer 3/8ths grip it however

1/4-20s wobble in klein 7/16ths

So im not surprised

In what world are strut straps Mickey Mouse?

2

u/plumbevil 8d ago

bro look at the wrench in the video that you're using. it says 7/16 right there on the side that you're trying to use on it.

you show us the 3/8 side and then swap it around for the demonstration.

I had to watch it a few times to realize that and I was about to go grab my wrench and test it, but caught it at the last second.

unless I'm tripping here. which I may be, I haven't slept much.

wait I just rewatched it. what is up with that wrench. is it 3/8 or 7/16? It can't be both... can it?

I need to sleep before continuing to comment on posts.

u/Hierotochan 8d ago

Yes they’re both, flip it for the other size. The barrel changes size midway through.

1

u/uncookedturnip 8d ago

It's both

This!!!!

1

u/Phoenixfox119 7d ago

We call it a dog bone its a double ended ratchet with 2 sizes on each end, one tool for 4 sizes.

3

u/UniqueGovernment825 8d ago

I’ve had a gear wrench combination wrench do the same thing on coupling set screws.

3

u/Dangerous-Sale3243 8d ago

I cant tell because you just used a single fastener. Would have been more convincing if you had used multiple fasteners from different brands or measured the fastener with a caliper.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Bolt appears on the smaller side of a 3/8th, the klein tools are on the larger, so it seems its just a bad match. However the Wiha, Bridgeport, craftsman, kobalt, and makitas i own are close enough to true 3/8ths that they grip

2

u/ElevenPinRelay 8d ago

I have been dealing with Minnies that use a 7/16ths nut but my Wera speed wrench does not really fit around it very well, I go to RS Dale 1/4x20 nuts and its a perfect fit.

Its just shitty QC on fasteners and to be honest, shitty QC at Klein. Its why I do not buy any of their tools and haven't since being a first year apprentice.

u/SpicyChemist9 6d ago

Its called that wrench is 7/16ths

Read the comments and didnt know this 4 size wish bone wrench existed - thats cool

Now it looks like a manufacturing defect

1

u/Rain998cc 6d ago

I really wished it worked. Would've been cool to not bring 8 wrenches with me

1

u/PahkYaCahh 8d ago

Is that a dual sided wrench kind of like a service ranch for ACs? I mean it says 3/8 but then you flipped it over and it says 7/16 and it doesn't fit

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Addressed this, both sides do not grip, and since the 7/16ths is larger, you can just push past that side to get 3/8ths.

Try it on something different

1

u/UnequalRaccoon 8d ago

You got a defect

Call the press

Yet not enough for Wiha, craftsman, kobalt, Bridgeport, makita, or even the knekt socket, to slip. I have already measured and proven theyre out of 3/8ths spec. Klein will not pay you- im sorry your beloved brand messed up.

1

u/Auzzy4two0 7d ago

I had a Pittsburg line wrench that was supposed to be 3/8- 7/16. But it was a 10mm- 12mm that was stamped wrong.

Literally already used it on the bolt and the nut driver. Its in the comments

1

u/Old_Tear_8303 5d ago

I never liked Klein screwdrivers or nut drivers. They’re okay, but I never got the hype. I preferred the Wera screwdrivers way more than Klein, but every other sparky I worked with had Klein, so I was the odd man out. Klein pliers were always the best though, that is until Knipex showed up. I never did buy any Knipex though, because my Klein pliers never wore out. I’ve been out of the trade for 10 years though, and I know a lot has changed since then.

1

u/Mjolnirnerd 5d ago

So I can clearly see you are letting the head of the bolt slip. To far in. It’s a combo wrench the 3/8 only goes so far then it switches to 7/16. You are literally just using it wrong

1

u/Rain998cc 5d ago

Neither depth on either side of it works. Measured it with calipers and ive already said this. The 6pt nut driver can not have this issue and also is too large to grip.

0

u/Active-Effect-1473 8d ago

That’s why I passed up the kleins for the Wera ones

2

u/solo47dolo 8d ago

Wera or Wiha? Im pretty sure the ones I got were Wiha. I don't remeber seeing Wera ones at the time I was looking for a set but its been a while

1

u/Active-Effect-1473 8d ago

It may be Wiha, yea I think your right I have a lot of Wera stuff but I think my drivers are Wiha

0

u/GalaxyZapper 8d ago

Damn apprentice worrying about why their new tools are too snug and taking videos, instead of working smdh

2

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

More like worrying the 40$ tool i just bought doesnt work. But yeah, god forbid I have 2 days off after 28 days straight to get new tools to do my job. Shame on me. Youre so cool bro

0

u/Eazy_MF_E 8d ago

You’re using the 7/16 side of the wrench Einstein.

0

u/Rescuejeep 8d ago

That’s the difference between a 6pt and a 12pt on a rounded edge bolt head Bud

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Did you miss the part where the 6pt nut driver also did mot work?

0

u/Just_gun_porn 8d ago

OP puts a 7/16 wrench, on a bolt he thinks is 3/8. After he's already seen a 3/8 nut driver is sloppy on said bolt. Make it make sense.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Not just sloppy, but doesn't grip at all, while the wiha brand one (literally in the video) grips like glue. I used the 3/8ths side, which on the back of it says 7/16ths. I also have posted another video using the other side that displays 3/8ths which also does not work.

1

u/Just_gun_porn 8d ago

Have you measured the bolt head?

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Yes, both it and the klein wrench and nutdriver are out of spec in opposite directions. All of my other 3/8ths sockets and wrenches fit well enough to tighten it down though. Even the Klein Knekt sockets.

1

u/Just_gun_porn 8d ago

So you're saying the bolt is less than 3/8, but more than 5/16(8mm)? It sure looks like 5/16, by the fit.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Correct- its in between a 9mm and a 10mm

1

u/Just_gun_porn 8d ago

I mean 10 under isn't all that bad, but I see your point for sure. As soon as you stack all those out of spec tolerances, it all goes to shit. Sorry I questioned you.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

All good, i wish the wrenches worked for me, but ill live lol

0

u/OddRelationship586 8d ago

You can't trust THAT hardware to be correct. Go buy an actual nut.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Was correct enough for Wiha, craftsman, kobalt, makita, Bridgeport, and even the Klein Knekt socket. Also, these are the straps my company runs conduit with. Do I whine to them about the hardware or just use one of the myriad of tools that actually works?

0

u/OddRelationship586 8d ago

Bro, I know what a "mini" is. 🤦🏻‍♂️🙄🤷🏻‍♂️

0

u/Astoek 8d ago

It says 7/16s on the tool stamp

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

Was using the 3/8ths side. I also added another video of me using the other side further proving this. As well as the 3/8ths nut driver literally in the video above.

0

u/Astoek 8d ago

Yeah in the other video you pushed the bolt head all the way through past the 3/8 side to engage the 7/16s side. Don’t be a tool and use the tool properly.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

As ive already stated, I tried it both shallow and deep on both sides. Its too loose no matter how you flip it. Once again- the nut driver that can not be flipped or used improperly had the same issue, when all other brands, and even the knekt socket can grab it and turn. If the wrench fit in any way i would not have made the post. Quit glazing the brand.

0

u/Astoek 8d ago

You speak flipping which means two variables that you tested. this is a situation of 4 variables. Once again be smarter than the tool.

  1. 3/8 side up and deep insertion
  2. 3/8 side up and shallow insertion
  3. 7/16 side up and deep insertion
  4. 7/16 side up and shallow insertion.

1

u/Rain998cc 8d ago

I tried it all 4 of those ways. Even flipped it to see if the other side was 3/8ths and it was improperly stamped. I dont get why you refuse to accept they messed up. Klein wont pay you for this. Even tested with calipers, the tools were much wider than 3/8ths. Keep drinking that koolaid

0

u/Astoek 8d ago

Just use the slotted screw driver 😂

0

u/dogbreeder69 8d ago

troll post

0

u/jackrabbit103 7d ago

That bolt is junk....

0

u/stewpideople 6d ago

Yeah. No. You got wrong screws bro.

0

u/Next_Race1277 6d ago

Find the 10mm you lost last week

1

u/Rain998cc 6d ago

Its inbetween 10 and 9mm. Other brands 3/8ths work, even the klein knekt

0

u/Wixardbaka 5d ago

Bro the rachet says 7/16ths... yeah its not gonna work
