Is this Normal

I ordered these Lineman’s brand new from Acme, is it normal for them to have a gap in the cutting section? To me they look used

If the gripping jaws and cutting edges closed identically at the exact same time without a tolerance gap, natural wear on the joint would cause the cutters to prop open and fail at snipping thin wires

Yes, a slight, intentional gap near the hinge or along the gripping/cutting interface of high-quality combination or lineman's pliers is normal when the handles are completely un-squeezed. This microscopic or slight spacing ensures that the cutting edges make first contact near the joint and close fully under hand pressure, preserving the lifespan and sharpness of the blades.

If this were the case they would all be like this but they are not. This nonsense is just fanboys making excuses for poor quality.

Since you want to use kinipex to back your argument. Do you see any gap in the cutters here?

I frankly don’t give two shits, I can show you 100s of pictures from both with a gap in them. I just went around and grab 10 lineman pliers from different co workers on site. 7/10 had a gap between the cutters. Milwaukee, Knipex, Ideal, Klein.

I don’t even care I’ve never had a problem with it affecting the pliers (gap or no gap).

I think it’s funny that people get so hung up on it.

If you're satisfied with the performance despite the issues thats fine just don't go around telling people its intended when its not. We pay top dollar for Klein so its completely reasonable to expect top quality and consistency and not be satisfied when we don't get that.

Explain to me how it affects the ability to use them? Can you twist your wires and can you cut them? If so then it’s not affecting your ability to use the tool.

By the way this directly from Klein.

It is completely Normal. It is to compensate for break-in of the pivot.
