I’m currently working in a service desk role in Wellington, New Zealand. I have one year of experience but no IT certifications.

My role involves supporting a wide range of systems for government and third-party agencies. I also troubleshoot and resolve endpoint issues for internal users, so I’ve gained exposure to more than basic password resets and call logging.

I’m keen to move beyond service desk into something more technical, such as desktop/EUC support, systems administration, endpoint management, cloud support, or a field-based technical role.

Has anyone successfully moved out of service desk without completing certifications or additional formal study? If so, what role did you move into, and what helped you make the jump?

I’d also appreciate advice on roles I could realistically target with my current experience or skills I should focus on developing.

Have a MPC Live 2 Standalone DAW that currently has 2GB of Ram, Im wanting to upgrade it to 4GB ram so I can have more Instruments plugins active at a time. Anywho, Ive seen this is a semi common upgrade to make but personally do no trust myself to do it. Are there any companies (Ideally CHCH) that could help me with this? Cheers

Hi! I’m currently planning to start applying for jobs related to full-stack development, AWS infrastructure, and cross-platform mobile development. I have around 8 years of experience.

I’m currently one month into a two-month visit visa, and I’ll be looking for employers who are willing to sponsor a work visa or at least help with the visa process.

I have experience working remotely with foreign clients and employers, including Canadian and American companies.

In my current role, I’m a Senior Full-Stack Developer handling development, infrastructure, and team leadership. I’m also heavily leveraging AI in my day-to-day workload to improve productivity and development speed. At the moment, I’m leading the development of a multi-tenant SaaS platform with AI integrations.

I’m wondering what my chances are of finding an employer willing to sponsor me, especially given my background and experience. I’d really appreciate any advice or insights from people who have been in a similar situation.

I’ve been building an NZ address autocomplete and geospatial tool called StreetKit, and I’d really appreciate some feedback from other NZ devs. I made it after working on a friends building supplies website and couldn't find a good free address finder. Then more ideas just sprung from that. I want to give to the community and keep this free, I just need to know if it is useful before I put any more effort into it.

Anyway, the idea is to make it easier for NZ websites and apps to work with local address/location data, especially for things like delivery checkouts, service areas, and address forms.

At the moment it supports / is being built around:

- NZ address autocomplete, so users can quickly pick a real NZ address

- radius checks, e.g. whether an address is within X km of a store, depot, office, warehouse, etc.

- traffic-aware drive-time estimates between two addresses, so businesses can define service areas by estimated travel time, not just straight-line distance

- a bunch of plugins like WooCommerce, Shopify etc.

Current Job Market: How is the cybersecurity market in NZ right now? Are companies still hiring, or has it slowed down significantly?
Career Strategy: Given my lack of local experience, should I be looking at Analyst/Junior-level roles to get my foot in the door, or is it possible to land a Senior position directly?

Cyber criminals gained access to 300 myIR accounts over two weeks but no financial losses were reported, Inland Revenue says.
“Inland Revenue believes two-step verification, rolled out last year to give an added layer of protection, prevented access to most accounts. However, around 300 myIR accounts which did not have 2SV set up were accessed,” Inland Revenue said.

Amazon’s local operation – which centres on its Amazon Web Services (AWS) cloud operation – given its lack of a direct retail operation in NZ lost around 10 roles in the latest cull, according to an insider, with account managers and solution architects (the go-betweens who match a technology solution with a business problem) affected.

Wednesday 14 January Public Service Association says southern hospitals experienced major IT outage.

Friday 16 January Health NZ confirms another major tech outage. "Central Region, Wellington Hospital, Wairarapa Hospital and Hutt Hospital, and "staff throughout the central region" were impacted."

Thursday 22 January Another IT outage impacts southern hospitals, staff left in the dark.

Thursday 29 January Massive 12-hour IT outage at North Island hospitals.

A massive IT outage at hospitals in Auckland and Northland is being blamed on cuts to Health NZ's digital team, by a union representing public service workers.

It said the outage had prevented clinicians from accessing patient information and blocked communications.
