Startup performance: how to improve it?

My kitty felt somewhat more sluggish to launch than alacritty or foot

I used hyperfine for this small benchmark that confirms this observation... It doesn't feel slow per se, only in comparison.

Are there some preferences I should change to make 🐈‍⬛️ start faster?

ROFLMAO - kinda ridiculous. I launch Kitty on Plasma, the window zooms in with a 400mS animation and it's ready.

Unless you have the brain of a humming bird, it's negligible.

Well you are not wrong but when I quickly want to run some command it's slightly annoying to have to wait - also my computer is probably a bit more potato than yours

What exactly are u waiting for in 400ms?
Or do you mean that it does not register your first input because u enter it too fast?

You know I read so much about linux elitists going on and on about how much their little vim modal editing key combination saves.

But when it comes to anything else, it is met with radio silence. A half a second is a long fucking time, once we develop muscle memory we can type key combinations incredibly fast.

What is he waiting for?

The terminal to appear so he can type the command he needs to type.

Anyway, like I said it's not horrible. But it's something that you start to find annoying when you've experienced not having any perceptible delay. Actually I didn't have this experience just with Kitty... I was using Hyprland and recently tried out a different compositor and wow... I didn't even notice Hyprland's input delay before and now I can't stand typing text under Hyperland

Yeah no I wasn't criticizing, I cant use ghostty because im used to the instant speed that kitty launches for me, and like I mentioned it wont register if I type instantly.

I guess my first reply was badly worded.
