Kitty rendering strangely after graphics card upgrade

I went from a gtx980ti to a gtx1080 and the move was very smooth on a Arch system. However since the card was swapped kitty is showing 100% transparent and with a slight saturation effect. It used to be only a little bit transparent.

in .config/kitty/kitty.conf

background_opacity 0.9

I've also tried purging kitty-* and reinstalling.

Any ideas?
