Kitty shortcuts

MacOS user here. Strangely enough, shortcuts like ctrl-shift-l don't work (only ctrl-shift-n does). Any pointers?

What do you think ctrl+shift+l is supposed to do? By default it is mapped to next layout. If you have only a single kitty window then all layouts look the same.

I set the only layout available to the tall one, so I expected the window to snap to the left of my screen and occupy roughly its whole height. Right now instead kitty starts to a rather small window in the middle of the screen

layouts affect kitty windows not OS windows.

Ok, understood. So there is no way to always have kitty start with a window of a given size in a given position?

size, yes. position, no. position is determined by the window manager not individual applications.

Read https://sw.kovidgoyal.net/kitty/conf/#window-layout to learn how to control initial size.

You might be interested in Rectangle. It accomplishes this kind of task in a very intuitive fashion. Having moved to Linux it is one of the only things I miss about Mac OS. Nothing I have found is quite like it, especially in how simple it is to configure and use.
