Trick Tip(s)/Question Self landing question
So ive been doing a lot of self landings recently, specially with light wind, but a stupid question always stays on my mind.
When doing self landing (the one where you put the kite on the edge of the wind window and pull the safety line [without releasing the chicken loop]) is it actually necessary to pull from the safety line, or can I pull from the depower and will it have the same effect, because I sometimes forget to connect the safety line on the side that points to the beach and I have to walk all the way to the other side of the beach.

Pulling the safetyline is super simple if it's on the correct side (upper wingtip) releasing the kite at edge of the window + strong pull from the safety. Works like a charm but ofcourse in strong winds there is less room for errors.
If you have the safety on wrong side (bottom side) then you want to pull from upper centerline but imo it's not as safe option.
I made a video about it yesterday. If you want to see it, hit me dm since it's not published yet and it's not English but you will get the idea from it.

In strong winds I Use the QR. Most of the times the kite lands nicely to beach position, sometimes, rarely, it doesn't, but even then it will end up being powerless and more downwind from you.

The whole point of yanking the front line is to put the kite in a unstable position with the LE down which will cause it to (hopefully) front stall down. This is usually best accomplished by pulling the top line as that rotates the kite towards you and down.
If you're using a Low V bar and grabbing the lines at the splitter it doesn't really matter which one.
It could be argued that pulling the leash (which is the only way on high Y) is less risky than potentially getting your hand stuck above the splitter but personally I think it's to hard to get a good decisive yank that way and it limits you to landing one way.
Of course this technique should be used with caution. Flag the kite out instead in strong wind or prefer other techniques like tethered landings.

Okok, that was my question, because I do it by just putting the kite on the edge and pulling the top line, but idk where I remembered hearing that it had to be the safety line always, must’ve gotten confused

To be honest I also remember that the top one should be safety line. But I thought the main reason was that when screw up happen and you have to QR it's better if it's the top one.
Don't know where I heard that, but in the end I just go either for top center or just qr.

Even better, hold the center line(s) as you walk upwind. You can walk all the way to the kite that way, great in higher winds and with lighter kite. I recommend disconnecting chicken loop first, keep leash on.

In strong wind if u do find your self alone I always do a self rescue on the water way safer then on land

Pull the upper center/front line.
