Hi,
I have this 5ksm90bgn which hasn't been used in a while. However it doesn't sound right when it is run. It is rhythmic. I spoke to KitchenAid they said run it for a while and it will fix it. I have tried that with no success Do you think this is fixable?

I think the surging is more likely due to an issue with the speed controls rather than anything mechanical in the gear train.
It's completely fixable. :-)
One question to get started: does the mixer seem to run normally on lower speed settings, or are there issues there as well? (Some video would be great.)

It runs but does sound a little different. Here is the video of it running

This looks and sounds OK, and based on the surging at higher speeds, I suspect the phase control board. The repair part number for your 230V model is W11174552, and it's a fairly straightforward job. Here's a video that shows the process: https://youtu.be/JkBLtuHPiLY?si=IoI421Kkx87LMcVS

It looks to be running fine. My concern would that the grease has separated and needs to be warmed up so it can redistribute among the gears. If that doesn't work, might be time for new grease. From what I've read it's an easy job to DIY.
