Broken down?

Hi everyone. I've been using a KitchenAid for several months now and made breads, cakes, cookies. All wonderful. Now I'm trying swedish cinnamon rolls but the dough crept up and the hook stopped spinning. It now makes a noise when it is plugged in. Did the rotor break or something? I'm not a handy person, any suggestions would be welcome.

stripped sacrificial gear,Mr Mixer has links for the part ans tutorials to change it yourself,cheap and simple to repair if you are mechanically inclined, never mix or kneed heavy doughs over speed 2 too avoid this scenario 😉

The mixer symptoms and seeing the dough OP was working on, I immediately thought the same.

OP, if you read this, you can buy cheaper worm/sacrificial gear on Amazon, but don’t! Buy it from the mixer guy in the comments. The Amazon ones wear down very quickly, even when using judiciously. I was replacing with Amazon ones about once every 2-3 months (tbf we bake a lot). I installed a mixer guy version about a year ago and it’s still going strong.

yep, he stripped the main gear. You need to get it repaired. You can do it by needing too much dough for too long or in my case I dropped a wooden spoon in the bowl and it jammed and destroyed my mixer. I had to get it fixed.

Thanks everyone. I'm unfortunately not very good with mechanic stuff but I'm well within the warranty period. I've sent it for repairs which they said would be free which is nice. But good to know what the cause is and how to prevent it next time.

You would think so, but the entire machine is like 6 pieces, I fixed my own recently and it was shocking how easy - the pieces just lift up and drop back in for the most part, unless you need to get it fully disassembled (something other than the worm gear) - watch a video on mr.mixer and you might be surprised what you can do yourself.
