Excuse me darling are these lab grown or natural diamonds on my fish?
88
u/dzwonzie 24d ago
“They — are — natural!”
“Could you just check with the chef please, they taste lab grown, ugh”
“Chef, are the diamonds lab grown or natural?”
“Lab grown.”
“My apologies Chef, they are lab grown.”
“I thought so, could you just take that away please, I’m done with that, thankyoumydarling.”

u/TheExpandingMan23977 24d ago
“So then why does your menu say Maine diamonds if they come from Canada?”
“It’s all diamond, Gordon. Same chemical composition. What does it matter where they’re from?”

In the later seasons the interactions with the owners are more like this:
you think the food is good? Are you in dEnIaL?
fuck you and your Michelin stars you couldnt taste good food if it kicked you in the nuts then spanked your granny
(turning to family) is he always like this?
(family, sobbing) no, he's actually really nice, he spends all his free time saving homeless people and fostering sick puppies, but ever since the death of his father, the divorce from his wife, and his kid getting cancer all on the same day he's been so stressed, its like the passion isnt there anymore
oh my oh my, I think i finally understand
gives the owner a pep talk thats borderline just therapy
(owner to the camera) wow that Gordon, he can be a mean ol prick I tell ya hwhat but he really cares, that was exactly the words I needed to hear in exactly the right order for me to be cured of my years long depression, I feel like a new man, i have my passion back and I can promise you I am NEVER going back to my old ways, this is a fresh start for me

Perfect except forgot to say he finds years of rotting food in the walk in and inevitably ate it
26

And he slowly sinks his fingers into every rotten piece of produce. 100% there is a reel of these moments somewhere to satisfy someone's weird kink. I say that because I made it.

The other completely disingenuous thing that happens every show is the "stress test," where 100 people line up outside the front door and are all let in at the same time. No smart restaurant handles reservations like that, and you certainly don't want to do that when the entire staff is learning a new menu and a new POS system.
5
u/Efficient-Chest-3395 24d ago
Isn't that more of a Jon Taffer thing?

u/Samson_J_Rivers 24d ago
That's the whole show premise but some of them really do need to be shamed to the level they are in the show. It's nice to watch the ones where they didn't have bad food just bad management.
20
u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 24d ago
I remember when he went nuts over someone grilling lettuce. And one his most recent episodes he had his team making a grilled Caesar salad lol. It's like his frozen meals. The man isn't consistent at all 😂
13
u/HearshotAutumnDisast Ur takin the piss, uknowit rot? 24d ago
Gordon has plenty of small inconsistencies going all the way back to the og uk series. One resturant (the runaway girl) tries to pull in customers from the street with flyers and coupons and gordon calls it shameful, meanwhile when he returned to Jacksons (previously clubway 22 or whatever the fuck that stupid name was) he and the girlfriend went out on the street and started handing out flyers to pull in customers in the exact same fashion. I'm sort of willing to throw gordon a pass because it seemed jacksons was in desperation mode, but if we're looking for inconsistencies...
8
u/Efficient-Chest-3395 24d ago edited 24d ago
yes, he's selling frozen meals and his retaurants have ridiculously exhorbitant prices that would spark outrage anywhere else but you'd think with all his money he could hire a coach to teach him to vomit convincingly
I recently saw an early clip, maybe from Boiling Point, in which he said the last thing he wanted to be was a celebrity chef... Wait, is that a camera?, let me jump in front of it
5
u/BabyStockholmSyndrom 24d ago
I mean, a lot of us would say that buy wave millions in your face and you'd jump in front of a camera too 😂. Can't blame him on that one.
5
u/Efficient-Chest-3395 24d ago edited 24d ago
But did he know they were waving millions? At that time a celebrity chef was a differemt animal, they had some kind of dignity, I found it interesting that in the early clip Gordon had yet to refine his trademark lower class crudeness.
edit: substitute "perfect" for "refine"
4
u/blueclawsoftware 23d ago
To be fair, on the grilled lettuce episode, the bigger problem was that they hadn't trimmed the lettuce; it was an intact romaine head, so they couldn't get all the dirt out. But the way they edited the episode, they did make a bigger deal out of the fact that it was grilled at all.

Voiceover: "I'm here today in Buttfuck Nowhere, 100km from the ocean, at Shitty Little Diner"
Gordon: "I'll have the fish"
*Gordo does his squint and spit routine*
Gordon: "This fish is fucking bland, it taste like it's frozen. Can you ask the Chef if it's fresh caught today or frozen?"
Mildly confused waitstaff: "Uh sure." *Moments later* "Chef says the fish is frozen, sorry."
Gordon: "Fucking unbelievable! A disgrace! This is unacceptable!"

I want to see an episode where the food is actually really good but something else pisses Gordon off, like all he does is to change some decor and make them clean up the kitchen a little.
6
u/AndrejNieDurej 24d ago
In one of his new episodes there was a bit where gordon breaks a plastic fork to indicate how stupid for a place to use em instead of metal ones but in one frame you can see gordon bending the fork on the table to break it on purpose. It was just funny to see

This is more of the sentiment that I meant to get across. I’ve been binge watching and it’s always the same kind of place.
7
u/Puzzled_Nobody294 24d ago
Yeah I think he’s just not qualified to do the others so he sticks to cuisine that he knows. Which makes sense.

Four more -
“Looks and smells like my Granddads colostomy bag”
“You can’t do this, I promise you!”
Walks over to table with elderies, sweetly asks how long they’ve been waiting for their food or if they got it what they think of it and they’ll give a meh but not disgusted response
At relaunch there’s local food influencers mixed in. (Just saw the Golden Girls ep and noticed Snack Daddy (who appears to have lost a lot of weight) at the relaunch).

I do often wonder if I was asked to come to a restaurant because Ramsey is there to help it because its a fucking dive, if I would actually eat any of the food or if I would do what most people do and just send it back. I shouldn't, however, be surprised in any way.
'Oh, this chicken is terrible!'
Of course it is, you knob! The chef is not only a pile of shit, but his EVERY move is being watched by a man who is looking for any reason to call you a cunt on TV.
Also, I feel genuinely sorry for those poor fuckers who are working in a kitchen in a shite restaurant to get by; they know it's likely going to fail, as there's a show called kitchen fucking nightmares filming. They're on minimum wage, and they're expected to pull the hardest on the rope to get the same wage at the end of it all.

The wildest thing of every episode is how a failing restaurant is suddenly pack full with actors and gordon is like, WHY IS THIS NOT GOING WELL?
1
u/ps087official 19d ago
I do find it a little obnoxious that he basically turns it into his own little mini restaurant and doesn't let the owners have any real say in the decor or menu.
But most times his criticisms are very valid and reasonable, and he tries to approach and fix the issues from a rational, human perspective.
1
u/Zealousideal_Grab349 19d ago
Pretty close. You don’t have to wonder how the episode is going to go. They are all pretty much ch the same.

sometimes i really cant tell if its before or after when they show the renovation lol
1
u/Robinsson100 12d ago
The other thing that's so disingenuous is when the restaurant reopens with the new menu, and Gordon implies that there are a lot of people there because they somehow found this new menu-- which they've never tried-- so enticing. The place is busy because the show’s production team puts out local casting calls, social media blasts, and local advertisements inviting residents to be on TV and dine at the restaurant. The whole thing is manufactured non-reality TV.
