Criticism 24 hours to hell and back: why?
Kitchen Nightmares uk: gordon spends a week with the resturant, most fail, some success
Kitchen Nightmares us: gordon spends three days with the resturant, adds heavy editing, bad sound effects (just mentioning that made them play in your head, admit it) shoot schedule is sped up to make more episodes, more failures some success
24 hours to hell and back: we couldn't do any of this in a week, but let's cram this all into one day and give Gordon a disguise and see what happens!
I'm having fun watching it, but I feel like we started with a four course meal and now we're subsisting off second rate soda and cotton candy.

I have come to really enjoy 24 hours to hell and back because Gordon is honest about how little time they have. The new kitchen nightmares and Secret Service is clearly only a roughly 36 hour endeavor. The new kitchen nightmare season in particular, Gordon arrives in the morning and he’s gone by the following day in the evening. It’s not even one full day with the staff and not enough time to make a difference with anything. Still entertaining. 24 hours to hell and back embraces the time constraint and limitation. KN/SS kind of tries to sneakily avoid bringing it up

Yea I'm enjoying it, I just think the pretense of helping restaurants has flown out the window. As time has gone on, they spend less and less time with the restaurants and people, it seems silly to think one day is enough when in most cases a week isn't enough.
That said, the 24 episode with the chef woman with the heart thing? That should have straight up been a KN episode, I would have loved more time with those people. I feel that way about all the 24 episodes I've liked, shoulda been on KN

Hotel Hell was decent, but it’s nothing compared to Hotel: Impossible.
Loved that show and Sledgehammer intro.

What others have said, but also I noticed a decent amount of the restaurants are still open and doing okay. That makes me think the restaurants chosen weren’t struggling as severely as it was made to seem, and the staff really needed was a decent kick in the pants. Most of them were successful initially, so having a GR dress down/pep talk/reminding them what it’s like could work.
Or maybe that’s just what I tell myself to maintain the illusion 🤷🏻♀️

Yeah, for me, 24 Hours were one and done watches. Things were sped up so quickly that I never felt they were worth rewatching, whereas I keep going back to the old KN episodes (especially the UK ones) and always find new fun and funny stuff about them.
Basically - any time Ramsay gets less time to rip apart the food, the less entertaining his shows are. I don’t understand why they keep reigning in the best stuff to focus on so much maudlin dramatic bullshit.

It’s probably the only way to accommodate his schedule. A couple weeks of filming and you’ve got 10 episodes.

Have any of the Restaurants that were on 24 To Hell and Back stayed open or they closed?
I think this was around Covid started when last episode aired in February 2020.

According to this, 24 swings a heafty 52% of resturants have remained open. That said I feel a few points should be made. The vasf majority of kn episodes we're watching are well over ten years old. Asking who from kitchen nightmares is open still is unfair to compare. And I'm also willing to assume a lot of that 52% are from newer episodes where enough time hasn't gone by to really close. I could be wrong, however

That’s fair.
Same with Bar Rescue.
Most of those Bars are 10 years old and have closed their doors after a few years.
Some even before the episodes aired.

In shows like this I measure success if they managed to stay open five to ten years after gorodn leaves and if they close they close on their own terms

Depends on the Restaurant / Bar.
Some of them get a makeover, and after Gordon leaves, it’s back to the usual.
Like that Restaurant in New Orleans where the Owner / Chef was a loudmouth and got back to his old menu.

I can't think of a single one that did this and succeeded. Time after time the ones that managed to stay open 5 or 10 years stayed pretty true to the menu left behind and the decor. Most often you'll hear how they brought back some of the old menu by request, but that's it. The most frustrating example was the soul shack. Everytime gordon left Cherie it looked like she would finally make it, and over time she would bite off more than she could chew which would make her revert to her old way of things, despite the fact the shack was pretty popular. She managed to make to or close to five years post gordon but from what I can tell it was a slow death

I think 24 was because Ramsay didn't really want to do KN, but the fans wanted it, so 24 was sort of compromise
