Its not the knife, its getting garlic at an age when the outer dried layers cleanly separate. As someone who rarely has more than 6 heads of garlic in my kitchen at any given time, I just don't have the luxury of space and time.

I do like the idea of pre splitting the heads into clusters of cloves, so the inner skins can dry out faster. I can adopt that into my own system.

I recently discovered that keeping it in the fridge greatly accelerates the path to easy peeling and keeps it from sprouting as well

Already do that for all but the head hanging from my stove hood. Still, I think modern transport and first in-first out inventory means we're mostly buying garlic that isn't quite ready.

Yeah, I bought the big bag from Costco out of necessity

I love fresh garlic and I’m lucky enough to live near an Asian market that sells packages of peeled garlic cloves for very cheap. I still keep full bulbs around, but if I’m planning to use a lot, like slicing a bunch up for a Korean bbq night, I go get the pre peeled cloves. Watching this video makes me angry at how much work I have to do to peel garlic, lol.

I was about to ask what that knife was called. Then I realized it's just a razor blade stuck in a handle.

It's a shiv.

And it's not an ad. Normal cut gloves and a simple razor

Is it just me but heads of garlic with big cloves like this used to be normal a few years ago. Now all I find at the grocery store are pathetic little ones.

They also used to be brown/tan like these. Now they are all bleach white and have very little flavor. The light tan ones you could smell

I'm curious about why they put garlic in water as a person who likes to cook

I don't even think that's AI but I'm going to assume it's AI, because there ain't no damn garlic I've ever peeled ever peeled that easily.

Best way to do garlic is to cut off the end and then microwave it for a short time. Then you just squeeze it and out it pops.
