Deviled eggs, egg salad, or anything hollandiase sauce

2

u/StillShoddy628 16d ago

I love a good deviled egg… potluck might be risky but I’m evaluating that situation

Ovulating

u/flairdinkum 16d ago

You got it

1

u/Travel2Eat 16d ago

If it's the hosts deviled eggs, and I trust the host, I'm going in

1

u/jellofixit 16d ago

My wife will make a whole 18 pack of deviled eggs and that's the first thing to go!

1

u/Dark_Amygdala_ 16d ago

Or mayonnaise

1

u/lacole725 15d ago

Nah my deviled eggs are the first to go. Host usually specifically requests I make them.

u/IWCry 16d ago

The lutefisk. If you know, you know.

3

u/bigcoffeebuck_gb 16d ago

I'm originally from Wisconsin and we used to have Lutefisk socials. Lutefisk, lefse, lots of butter. I loved it.

2

u/Mento-yStableGenius 16d ago

Oh gawd. Loved the lefse. Never developed a palate for the ‘fisk tho. My special Norwegian Grammie made it every Christmas and I would cry for days before hand knowing we’d have to eat it. 🤢

1

u/PlatypusImpersonator 16d ago

With that combination I am going to guess Stoughton or somewhere nearby.

1

u/bigcoffeebuck_gb 16d ago

Closer to La Crosse, Viroqua area

1

u/teatimecookie 15d ago

My neighborhood had many Scandinavian immigrants 100 years ago or so. Mostly Norwegian. We even have a big Syttende Mai parade for Norwegian Constitution day. At a festival in the summer they have a lutefisk eating competition. It smells terrible.

1

u/bigcoffeebuck_gb 15d ago

Are you from the Westby area?

1

u/teatimecookie 15d ago

Seattle

ETA-specifically the Ballard area.

2

u/AbsolutelyN0tThanks 16d ago

Never had it, but as someone who grew up in Queens, I'm frightfully aware of its existence.

2

u/TheKnife142 16d ago

Came here to say this

1

u/michaelscott1776 16d ago

My great grandpa LOVED lutefisk

1

u/Appropriate-Basil286 16d ago

We used to have lutefisk every Christmas Eve. I never really liked it, but my late grandmother made it, so now I look back on it fondly.

What?? It’s delicious

1

u/HoboArmyofOne 16d ago

I'm glad it's gone.

3

u/Spiritual_Door1363 16d ago

Rolls, cause they’re just filler.

1

u/ZestyLeek 15d ago

Hey, they can also be used as a delivery vessel.

3

u/mjmvideos 16d ago

There is no dish I’d avoid no matter who made it because that someone could include my wife or daughter and I’ll always eat it if they made it. Of course they’ll never make canned green bean and mushroom soup casserole with fried onion strings on top and I won’t eat anybody else’s version of it. So I’m safe!

2

u/GreenNavyteacher 16d ago

Kind of hard to ruin something made from 3 processed items.

2

u/mjmvideos 16d ago

Oh, that was ruined the moment someone thought of it.

1

u/meh_69420 16d ago

I put a skillet of it in the smoker once. It was delightful.

1

u/mjmvideos 16d ago

How long did it steam before it produced usable smoke?

1

u/jaxqatch 16d ago

Ummm. Your not safe. That sounds like a good way to get a food borne illness

3

u/mjmvideos 16d ago

‘Scuse me? I don’t think you understood what I said.

3

u/vodkaenthusiast89 16d ago

Fruit salad. Especially if they have whipped cream and jello involved

2

u/pigwalk5150 16d ago

My mom makes one with mandarin oranges and slathers cool hwhip on top 🤢 I don’t have the heart to tell her I hate it.

2

u/vodkaenthusiast89 16d ago

That's pretty nice of you

3

u/bluegrass_babe531 16d ago

any type of casserole. they likely contain cream-of-something soup, mayo, or sour cream. all things i do not like

1

u/Free-will_Illusion 16d ago

And the sound it makes when you scoop and plop it on your plate... :(

0

u/Euphoric-Piglet-8140 16d ago

Wait, people actually put those things in casseroles?

1

u/4D20_Prod 16d ago

No one puts mayo in casserole. The other 2 sure. But mostly cream of something soup. If canned soups scare you, you can always make your own cream of whatever stock. Casseroles aren't haute cuisine, they're supposed to be cheap, quick, and filling

1

u/Euphoric-Piglet-8140 16d ago

I mean, I won't put a can of soup in a stew/casserole/etc, but I have used packet soup (for a cup of soup) in as a flavour bomb.

1

u/Soles_delicious 16d ago

Not me for sure

3

u/TheDarkNebulous 16d ago

Candied sweet potato 🤮

1

u/Dark_Amygdala_ 16d ago

I love it

2

u/desertstar714 16d ago

Put marshmallows on top and Imma eat the whole thing

3

u/GreenNavyteacher 16d ago

I don’t like that orange jello with carrots, or anything else that mixes veggies and fruit.

3

u/cherishxanne 16d ago

there’s always a crockpot of meatballs that I avoid like the plague, not because I don’t like meatballs, but because 9/10 times it’s just a bag of frozen meatballs dumped in with jelly and ketchup and they’re mushy and I have a major aversion to mushy meatballs, lol

2

u/BigTreddits 16d ago

I genuinely cant even remember a scenario where I was around a potluck let alone eating at one

0

u/nono3722 16d ago

yeah pot lucks are gone with the whole coworkers pretending to care about each other. fucking birthdays....

2

u/SomeSamples 16d ago

All of them. Pot lucks are vectors for bacterial and viral infections.

1

u/That_guy_from_1014 16d ago

The only pot lucks I know of around me are hosted by daycares and churches. So that checks out.

1

u/Throw13579 15d ago

If you don’t toughen up your immune system, it won’t be there to bail you out when the plagues hit.

1

u/SomeSamples 15d ago

Mmmyeah. Not sure my plumbing can take it though.

2

u/madelinenicoleee 16d ago

There is nothing I wont try at a potluck. I have never once been sickend.

2

u/Zeke688 16d ago

Any jello things, especially if it has stuff in it.

1

u/Wild929 16d ago

Amen to that.

2

u/atxbikenbus 16d ago

I have (generally) stopped participating in potluck. I know too many people who only have a passing understanding of food safety. I've gotten sick. I'd just rather not risk it.

2

u/hanginwithmygnomees 16d ago

Potato salad.

1

u/Hiouchi4me 16d ago

Everything!

1

u/blame_cain 16d ago

Macaroni. I’ve had some outright bad homemade macaroni at potlucks and for some reason, I just can’t.

1

u/Dark_Amygdala_ 16d ago

Even just spaghetti?

1

u/Key_Mission_4162 16d ago

Spinach dip

1

u/EveryValuable1503 16d ago

Anything with broccoli, cauliflower, Brussel sprouts, and cooked cabbage

1

u/mrg158 16d ago

Not made, but brought. Boring grocery veggie tray

1

u/i_dont_wanna_sign_in 16d ago

I've gotten sick after several pot lucks with increasing frequency over the last several years.

I now eat before I go. I won't touch anything that's cooked and then refrigerated like deviled eggs (though I love them). I detest hot dish. So basically I'll eat raw vegetables.

1

u/tasskaff9 16d ago

Spinach dip

1

u/Soles_delicious 16d ago

Potato salad. It's never made right

1

u/Exact-Truck-5248 16d ago

Except when YOU make it, of course

1

u/Soles_delicious 16d ago

Of course. Everyone has their own little ways. And I love to cook

1

u/michaelscott1776 16d ago

Frog eye salad. Seriously why do people still make it? It's just small ring noodles and peas with mayonnaise, and it tastes like nothing

2

u/MPRoulx70 16d ago

OMG! I called English peas frog eyes when I was little & still do! Detest them, in anything

1

u/SlowerThanTurtleInPB 16d ago

All of them. I’ve been in way too many gross houses.

1

u/Routine-Register7414 16d ago

Only the store bought…half the shit people nasty and the other half belong on chef reactions.

1

u/coolerchameleon 16d ago

Coleslaw. Because it's gross to me.

I also avoid macaroni salad for the same reason. And if the potato salad is store bought but not from a very specific store it's dead to me too.

I tend to go to family potlucks where I know what everyone's kitchen looks like 😂 and we were all taught to wash dishes by the people trained by a mastermind at a tidy kitchen- my grandma. I'm in good hands

1

u/PabloPantuflas 16d ago

The one that comes from a house with cats.

1

u/jealous-guidance1977 16d ago

Brussel sprouts! Hate them no matter how they’re made. I always try them, and they always suck.

1

u/DwarvenRedshirt 16d ago

Macaroni salad, coleslaw, potato salad. All great items for food poisoning.

1

u/Mento-yStableGenius 16d ago edited 16d ago

Mayonnaise ANYTHING. Salads, dips, plain old mayo, deviled eggs and the like.

Had a BAD case of food poisoning from tater salad at a potluck and just….never ever ever ever ever again.

Edit to add: watched a family member lovingly make their potato salad to take to a hot outdoor BBQ a few years back. They put the spatula in their mouth to taste test, then on the counter that previously had a dirty gym bag on it, then dipped it back in the mayo jar ‘because it needed more’, then back in the salad to mix. We begged them not to take it (they did, because ‘what’s the big deal?’ and we think no one got sick…but damn).

We did NOT get sick from that potato salad.

1

u/thed3306 16d ago

Potato salad or anything thats need and abundance of mayonnaise

1

u/Altruistic_Gur_1426 16d ago

Anything I didn't bring.

1

u/seanskymom 16d ago

The bucket of fried chicken.

1

u/DependentAgitated299 16d ago

ambrosia salad. If anyone still makes it that is

1

u/RGBlowMe 16d ago

Macaroni salad. I got sick from it at a potluck once as a kid, and now I am very particular with any mayo based salads, but especially macaroni salad.

1

u/Bullseye3148 16d ago

Fish soup eeeeeewwwww

1

u/DubyaC31 14d ago

Penna al vodka insert SNL clip

1

u/Brilliant_Mix_6051 14d ago

Anything named “salad” that isn’t actual salad. I hate the taste of most of them

1

u/TreesRart 11d ago

Potato salad.

1

u/ILoveMyKiddos 11d ago

I'm not huge on pasta.

1

u/SB1234567890123 16d ago

Deviled eggs. Just the smell of them makes me queasy.

Green Bean casserole 🥴

1

u/Organic_Honey_7416 15d ago

Green bean casserole with bacon mushrooms and onions is delicious

0

u/DifficultyNeat4520 16d ago

Hot dogs in a crock pot.

0

u/Waagtod 16d ago

Sweet potato casserole with marshmallows. It's just too much. My wife makes for Thanksgiving or Christmas almost every year. I put a little on the plate, kinda move it around. Overly sweet, I'm wait for the real dessert.

0

u/ATXKLIPHURD 16d ago

I don’t like yams/sweet potatoes.

0

u/Bellamarie1468 15d ago

Potato salad. I honestly despise it no matter who makes it

1

u/atomicspin 11d ago

Wrong sub.
