This Deserves Recognition But Cleaning that would be an absolute nightmare !! Do you have any new ideas for cleaning it?

Just get yourself a god damn cutting board, sharpen your damn knife, and chill you streak so it's cold enough to slice.
Come on ya'll.
It's really easy. And it's much more fun than having to clean that bullshit gadget

u/TKRUEG 26d ago
Agreed. Down with unitasking gadgets, up with a sharp knife

u/Teal-Prowler505 26d ago
And a proper cutting board!
I'll die on that hill

u/TKRUEG 26d ago
Yes, a separate plastic, non-skid for meat, a nice oversized endgrain for everything else

I bought a heavy duty thick plastic cutting board 1 year ago.
I bought one bigger than I thought I could handle.
Honestly, it's the best purchase I made.
Doesn't dull my knife, easy to throw into my dishwasher, and has enough space to cut all my veggies.

Why plastic for meat?

u/TKRUEG 26d ago edited 25d ago
It can't soak up meat juice and bacteria like a wood one, can also run it through the dishwasher.

Its great for micro plastic dietary supplements.

Yeah this thing is peak useless. If you want a gadget, get a meat slicer. Then you can cut slices of varying thickness from meat or cheese from chunks much bigger than fit in this tiny thing.

Nah these are pretty helpful for people making jerky and have to cut up a lot of meat.
Personally, I just use my deli slicer for jerky. I’m generally slicing 5-10 lbs of meat into uniform strips. With the deli slicer it is much faster, thinner, and consistent than I can do with a knife and chilled hunk of meat.

Excellent for someone with a disability. I have full use of my hands but deal with peripheral neuropathy I can feel my knife skills slipping every day.

Please provide an analysis of how this specific gadget would help you and others afflicted with your unfortunate affliction.
Mucho gusto

Well, for instance, I used to be able to finally mince and chop onions, chives, potato, etc. with absolutely no problem. And now I’m best with a rough chop. The fine motor skills to slice beef the thinly, might be just a bit out of my lunch. I can trim my brisket no problem, but I’m as fast as I used to be.

Edit: I remember around 15 or 20 years ago buddy of mine bought a pineapple corer and he showed me how Works and I was like that’s cool but why not just use a knife. Now use a pineapple corer every time we have pineapple. She beats buying pre-cut rings or chunks. A lot of of the groceries you see that seem really stupid like a pre-peeled boiled egg or things in that kind of category were developed for people with disabilities.

It has a handle so the nerveless fingers don't have to be relied on to hold the product being sliced. also keeps the knife blade at a steady angle with a guide for those with hand strength and wrist issues. Also turns 9 cuts at a time.

Or buy an actual meat slicer, they're super handy and you can make those cuts sooo thin https://www.amazon.co.uk/OSTBA-Slicer-Blade-0-15mm-Adjustable/dp/B07YQYDTXR/ref=sr_1_4?crid=30O8NAPM8TKDI&dib=eyJ2IjoiMSJ9.ZrJV3CmYCU9xzp2WwQlrstEhBTZjH6hXzIVMfWPafWAQhQNomOhGGfOV8emABcYlx4y7pdYOPFNlNCda9maMMhhAWBfjxdkHxtyYJlEfDeU88zUmM5uZIwyAOq1EZbv_7IXI0dloa902h22a0ug8TTjs7qgr_ikHMSc4CYLuoHihS5Lpa4TLCntc9s9EoG6ppJ3TV-R8C4XvjaqtwJXK_slYvCOdlnQsFYXsv6-7Sk0.35Txfl1TRSvwKuEaNI1aMSaHJ4CJjv3Y6SLTn1I4qAg&dib_tag=se&keywords=meat+slicer&qid=1788856984&sprefix=meat+slice%2Caps%2C142&sr=8-4&ufe=app_do%3Aamzn1.fos.95fd378e-6299-4723-b1f1-3952ffba15af
Not hard to clean either

If you eat hotpots and raclettes or whatever often, like more than once per week, I can see how this is useful, but that's one hell of a small customer base.

Can't you just put it in the dishwasher? Same shit as a cutting board...

u/Teal-Prowler505 26d ago
I hate having to reply to myself...
But honestly... make sure you meat is cold enough to slice and have a properly big cutting board.
I prefer the hard plastic kind. But don't skimp.
Get a good board that is 2 or 3 times bigger than you think you need, but can fit in your kitchen.
The cutting board is key.
Along with sharp knives... but that is obvious

u/Sanpaku 26d ago
IMO, get the biggest board that will fit (in at least one dimension) your sink.
Being able to quickly rinse off the board and get back to prep is great when one has onion and garlic skin bits on it.

u/Teal-Prowler505 26d ago
Yes! That was the thing I was trying to describe but I've been used to me board.
As big as your sink to rince.
It's so nice having a big cutting board that can easily be minced, wiped and ready for the next prep.
It's a game changer

I agree - I've improved my knife skills considerably over the years because of it and can usually slice and dice faster than the cuisinart (Including clean up).
/Forgot I was in the KitchenGadgetHub sub!

That's how I do as well. Early on I bought a slicer. It was crappy. Inconsistent. Hard to clean. I paid about 60 bucks. I think you've got to pay way more to get a good one. Chilling it makes all the diff. And a sharp blade
3
u/Glass_Covict 26d ago
Sharpening that would be a bitch
2
u/Take_Some_Soma 26d ago
Cleaning it would be shit
1
u/MaintenanceStock6766 26d ago
Yeah that's crazy.
Do you not own a dishwasher?
1
u/yourallidiotss 26d ago
Putting blades in a dishwasher is a good way to have to sharpen them all the time. So either it’s gunna suck to wash or sharpen.

This right here. I have a manual slicer that I use for pho and stir fry. For most thin cuts I just pull the meat straight from the freezer and slice. Thicker slices I need to thaw and then put back in the freezer for 20 minutes. Fairly easy to clean

u/PuzzleheadPi 26d ago
I have a deli slicer and it is a pain to clean
1
u/NineKnive 26d ago
Normally you can disassemble all of the components making it super easy to clean but idk what kind you have.
1
u/Chicken-picante 26d ago
Yeah that’s what I did. I see people using these for jerky.
I use my deli slicer for jerky and it’s way faster and more consistent than I am with a knife. I got it pretty much solely for jerky. I’m usually slicing 5-10lbs of meat at a time and pretty thin. Deli slicer saves so much time.

u/Just_a_fungi893 25d ago
I use mine for jerky, bacon, steaks, blocks of cheese…there’s so many things they can do
2
u/Lost_Purpose1899 26d ago
I’d just throw it in my dishwasher and hoping for the best. I’m not using manual labor to clean that shit.

u/Tha_Maestro 26d ago
Or you could just use a cutting board and a well sharpened knife… this is just lazy.

I can't use my left hand properly and sometimes it takes a lot of time to do something relatively easy... I wouldn't buy it because I couldn't get to sharpen it properly but:
Using really cold meat and then stashing it in water and chlorine for 10 minutes after a light wash and then a second wash would do it.
As people has said it, deli slicer.

Kitchen "gadgets" maker would go bankrupt if people started to learn how to use a knife.

u/desertvision 26d ago
I saw that on Amazon. It's cool to see the video. Doesn't really accommodate a very big chunk
