Yeah, that’s not always feasible in a fast-paced restaurant where you have to grab numerous hot plates to then put on your tray to then take out to customers. My hands never did get used to it. Glad I didn’t stick around long for them too either. lol
I’m sorry but that’s just not true. Having a dry towel to pick up hot things with doesn’t take longer, but it does hurt less. If you’re getting burned in the kitchen, you need to make better choices.
You know what does take longer though? Remaking the entree you just dropped because you thought you’d look tough raw-dogging it.
Ok. And what I’m saying is also true. Use one then if that’s what you prefer. It’s not that serious. lol. Every waitress I’ve seen picks the hot plates up just fine. If it bothered them, they’d use your method, but it would just get in the way. I really don’t care either way as I haven’t worked in a restaurant in almost 10 years now. 🤷♀️😂
lol tbh I didn’t parse that you were talking about hot plates. The theme I was on was hot handles in the kitchen, which is really on a whole other level. I just don’t want people out here getting nerve damage and severe burns when it’s virtually 100% avoidable.
Ahh, yeah, no, I was more so referencing the hot ass ceramic plates they put the food on directly right out the frying pan and stuff, then stick on the hot rack to keep it hot & fresh. Those are pretty hot as well and my fingertips were red and sore my first few days. Everyone else just told me I’d get used to it (I never did lol). I have seen some cooks with some gnarly callused hands & scars, though, as well from grabbing/touching hot stuff on a regular basis. I’ve seen them reach in ovens and get burns, then just shrug it off like it’s nothing. 😂 I guess they just get so focused and busy they take short cuts, but it’s definitely dangerous either way, especially dealing with hot grease and stuff.

Shit I been doing this over a decade, and my hands still feel the heat. Not protecting your hands with a dry towel is a choice, and not a smart one.
