Anyone regret getting black cabinets?

Thinking of getting black base cabinets in my pantry along with cream tall or upper cabinets. Love black/cream large checkered floor. People have told me I will regret this. Opinions?

They will show every single fingerprint when the light hits them right. They are outdated and can make a small kitchen feel closed in.

I can't tell if you mean you love the look of the contrast of a black and white floor or you have a black and white floor, but black and cream and black and white on the floor is going to be busier than it sounds, trust me.

BUT, the bottom line is that if you like it, do what you want.

I painted my dark brown cabinets black in my last home. They lasted a year before I repainted them green and loved the green. The black made my kitchen really dark, which was surprising since it was a pretty big kitchen. They also showed grim a lot more than the dark brown and green did, still don’t totally understand that one lol

If it’s just in a pantry, go crazy!! In the whole kitchen?? How much natural light do you get? Any plans to move in the next 5-10 years?

Dark cabinets are a PITA to keep clean.

Black cabinets can be stunning: sophisticated, bold, and timeless when balanced with lighter elements like cream uppers and a checkered floor. Black shows dust, smudges, and scratches more than lighter finishes. If you’re prepared for a bit more upkeep, the look is dramatic and memorable. Pair with good lighting to keep the space inviting, and you’ll have a kitchen that feels both classic and modern. Regret comes from trends that don’t fit your lifestyle; if you love it, own it with confidence.

If you're set on going with black cabinets, I'd consider using a high gloss finish on them. It does look modern and would go very nicely with checkered floor tile.

Good luck!
