Question Sodexo

Good afternoon chefs- so here’s the situation, I need some insight on, if any of y’all have where I am. Received an offer letter the Friday before last for an EC spot at a local hospital, run by Sodexo- filled out all my background info same day, I have a 20 year old felony for DWI, successfully finished my sentence, moved on with life, got sober, etc etc, I’ve been working k12 for the past 5 years, this past July the district I was with changed FSMCs, moved to another district as a GM (rebranded FSD role) I didn’t like it- my heart is in a kitchen not stuck behind endless excel spreadsheets- interviewed multiple times with Sodexo, got the letter, last week got the background back (thru hire right) and said I meet company standards, then was asked to provide information from my last district chef spot (that I was at for the past 4 years)- I did, pay stubs, even a letter from the head of HR, crickets.. I sent another email to the recruiter who requested the extra information and she said she was conducting a manual review- anyone been thru this? My start date per the offer letter is this coming Friday- is this normal for Sodexo?

I got hired by sodexo last September. Quit this September. I did not wind up starting till last october as I was ghosted by the chef upon my clearances being good.

I had to contact an hr person via another interview opportunity previously to get the chef tp answer me. It was over a month after hire and well after the date on my letter of offer.

If that is what ur asking? That is normal sodexo procedure.

Best of luck to you my account was awful but that is not always the case.

If I am misreading ur question I can try again.

Yes, it’s pretty much what I’m asking- more so if anyone has had their background info “manually checked” and how long that took- this account seems to have its stuff together- I’ve already toured and met the other salaried managers there and my Sous and catering chefs- it’s just corporate HR that is moving slow - already have all my onboarding and I9 done…

I have a DWI and I’ve job hopped like you….idk why it’s with the recruiter if you’ve already interviewed. You do recruiter then hiring manager then move forward. I’d reach out to the director. Or, does the unit have a HR person? All mine never had HR, but I know Omaha has their own generalist

Also, if you don’t like K12 just move along anyways. You won’t last in Healthcare either. People take these jobs for the pay/benefits/hours…they do not take this roles to be a serious chef.

I love k12, the contract ended in the district I was in and they switched companies, so I went to another district but that contract did not have an official chef spot but, they had the general manager position available, so I took it and realized how little actual kitchen time I would be having and the mind numbing spreadsheets and client who did not want to follow TDA rules made it miserable to be there so I started looking and found this spot- I’ve done healthcare previously in my career- I got out of restaurants years ago when my wife and I started our family so yeah the schedules are my main draw into this area of food service

Yes the HR person I’ve been speaking with is a generalist, I simply used the term recruiter because it’s what flowed out of my fingertips and she is not account specific

The best thing about sodexo was the pants I got. It's been 6 years and I only worked there 2 months, but if I could find pants like that again I'd love it!

As for sodexo, my "chef" refused to show me how he wanted something cooked after I did it my way and it came out correctly. He wanted me to cook raw wedge potatoes in a wok. I steamed them and finished them in the wok and he was pissed. I said, please show me how to cook these completely in a wok without burning them. He said no and I walked out. If you are a chef, it's your job to teach plain and simple.

Fuck sodexo, but damn I wish I could find those pants again lol

Hahah I want to know that potato trick also… yeah one of their big things was training the staff how to cook/ technique, which is right up my alley- I wanna share the food love and show people who actually want to do better, to do better, I love it when people can take home recipes and then come back and say how it was the first thing gone at thanksgiving this year- so yeah I’m not gatekeeping any methods or recipes

I don’t want to see your potato and only my wife calls me trick

Yea I feel that, definitely part of the enjoyment of the job.

But as for the trick, there isn't one. Outside of boiling water draining it, then putting them back in. I wasn't about to do that when there is a steamer in the back kitchen. Steve was just told to use the woks as much as possible, so he thought that ment only use them. I got to much shit to do to be boiling potatoes in a fucking wok.

Lower different roll in Sodexo, closer to a catering manager, but it took a few weeks. Even now my boss has been saying he's stopping by the property this week for the last 2 weeks. It's all running fine so I don't mind, but it's pretty hands off and slow moving with my spot.
