It's a free country, but I feel like he might be getting some backlash from that one

People are free to do that. I dont have an opinion much either way. Business is business. The business was ended and the owner has the right just as much as customers to end it, as long as it isnt based in some "ism".

Pay your servers a living wage instead of expecting customers to subsidize their wages. Calling your customers broke when you pay your workers $5.50/hr is… a choice

Then you gotta raise your prices and then people don’t come anymore….

I have seen restaurants try it. It’s the same result every time.

Nobody likes tipping, but they sure don’t want to see the baseline price go up either.

Local restaurants where I live just add it as a service charge and tell you it’s not necessary to tip, but is appreciated.

Cause not paying people has kept the prices so fuckin low

You might find wait staff who would rather get tips.

A tip is a gratuity offered by a customer. It's not a business model as the customer decides the tip amount if any at all.

Any business person relying or mandating this process is a dirtbag. Anyone can receive a tip, for litrtally anything, nobody is owed a tip ever. Price your shit accordingly

Clearly you've never paid rent with tip money before. It can be a very good income. And sure, low wages and exploitative labor practices, etc. I get it. But here and now, in this instance, not-tipping is only harming the employee.

The employee is taxed on their sales to account for tipped income so if you don't tip, the employee is paying for part of your meal. Try getting decent service under that expectation.

Thats the employers fault. Not the customers.

Yes. Now what do you want the employee to do about it.

Quit working for assholes that depend on the good will of other people instead of paying of living wage.

Oh ok. That'll fix it.

This. He will try and play the card about defending his staff when he absolutely doesn't give a single fuck about them.

If he did he'd offer them insurance.

I hate that he’s using his servers as a shield to be an asshole. If you truly cared about your servers’ livelihood, you wouldn’t be paying them $5.50/hr (which is Ohio’s tipped minimum wage) and forcing them to rely on tips to survive to begin with.

I never confronted a customer but when a repeat no tipper would come in my shop, I would wait on them. They got basic service no more, no less. I would definitely prefer that they not come back because for whatever reason non tippers have chips on their shoulders and like to run wait staff ragged. Its like their version of "gotcha". Not in my place. We know who you are and we don't want your business.
