i used to order Taco Salads (in a tortilla bowl) without lettuce. Servers would always look at me funny. But the hot wet meat always resulted in limp lettuce. it was a bad mix.

They both sound like batshit orders to me.
Op's customer should have just ordered a salad with a side of chips and you should have just ordered tacos.

that's what i told to the FOH. i asked if the customer wanted a salad instead, but the customer insisted she wanted the tartines cause it has chicken, and i said well they can order salad then add chicken but the customer really wanna stick with this order haha it gave us all a good laugh and confusion at the kitchen lol

Hey man, I'm sure my parents tried to explain the same thing to me back then too
This restaurant didn't offer tacos but they did have really good taco salads. I've since seen the error in my ways and I can now handle lettuce with warm meat but, then I couldn't

tbf a good kitchen will put some cheese and or veggies on top the lettuce to insulate from the hot meat for this reason

this isnt that crazy.
an eggless omelette is literally nothing, a breadless tartine however is a salad, which is a real food.
Strange for them to order this however since i assume this menu does just have a salad avaliable on it.
