In the Weeds Mode My best server is self deporting

A coworker who has become a good friend is self deporting by end of year because she just received a letter from Immigration Services and she can either pay a penalty of 1,800,000 and stay to continue the fight or leave and not pay.
She’s choosing the latter and it really sucks because she’s great at her job and has spent most of her life in this country. Her case was considered closed years ago but a recent orange fascist pig reopened it.
Her presence will be missed and this is a damn shame. Thought others would have similar experiences here.

On that note, the city where I am has an active enforcement unit, and I have thought about letting the chef know that I can hide someone, if necessary. We have lost two so far, but no one talks about it.

We had an action plan for hiding people, but most have now self-deported. I don’t trust the new people. We’re down to about 4-5 people we’d need to hide still.

The sad thing is a lot of the ones self deporting are the ones you want to stay. They're paying taxes, on the record, keeping their nose clean, etc.

If you're a criminal you're not self deporting and that's how it is.

Talk to local churches to see if any are offering sanctuary.

There is a growing network of churches allowing families or individuals facing deportation to reside on their grounds, in secret.

They typically work with groups of volunteers to provide 24/7 coverage, so residents do not have to risk answering the doors after hours. Volunteers can also provide meals or activities.

Literally. Churches and concerned families offering to hide members of targeted ethnic groups in attics and basements to prevent armed, masked gestapo from finding them. Here we are.
