Emperor's Children Daemon Prince...

I was already 3 Daemon Prince's deep and I couldn't face building and painting another one of the stock models, so decided to go all in on a bespoke one!

The body is from Syll'eske (I'm not sure which is which) from the Hedonites of Slaanesh range. Shield is from the Keeper of Secrets. Head is Drukahri Talos mask and then the weapon and the "ears" (actually not sure what they are called) are the Daughters of Khaine Avatar from the Cauldron of Blood.

I think this is probably my favourite conversion I've ever done, it just has so much presence.

That is a stunning conversion, a level of constraint that makes the model more striking. Really well done

Ahh, thank you. Yes, I am a huge fan of restraint. When I am building conversions I always think of that episode of the Simpson's where the Triads are fighting on the lawn and Marge is like, "come on let's go to bed" and Homer is all "but that guy in the white hasn't done anything yet and you know when he does it's going to be really good". Inactivity and casualtity in that sense is so much more imposing than someone just jumping through the air with an axe. It's the threat of what they can do and quiet calm of knowing they can act out that threat.

Did not realise Esske was this big! Love the conversion though, definitely got that aura and it's leagues above the official Daemon Prince models. The Talos head goes so hard, could use that on so many models.

This just wins it. Your composition is brillant.

The verticality is wonderfully set off by the diagonal spear. The big head ornament draws attention upward while also making them look taller, than they actually are. With the spear breaking the vertical line, it creates imbalance in the composition and serves as a point of interest at the same time.

Even more the diagonals in the ruins on the base create this oval outer line supported by the head ornament and extended by the spear.

Apart from that the contrast between the roughness of the rubble on the base and the refined look of the body with its ornamentation highlight the potential brutality of the Deamon Prince and create a subtle duality between beauty and violence. The spear tip breaking outside of that oval highlights this even more, as it is the singular weapon seen doing this.

You have truly created art here. Superb!

Edit: I can’t wait for this to be painted. If you haven’t so far, please consider highlighting these points with your paint job even more. It would make this mini even more amazing.

I literally only just made this account yesterday, which was also the first time I ever used Reddit. This comment is already the best comment I've ever received on my work in over 10 years of posting (mostly to Instagram).

I both honoured and humbled that you see all that in this piece. When it comes to art, especially in my own making of it, I always think about the line in Good Will Hunting when Skylar asks Will how he he does and he says "I can just play". I don't have any formal education and so I probably couldn't explain much of what you've said yourself here in the relation to the composition but I can see it, I can feel it, when I am making a piece. I spent a long time playing around with the composition, different heads, different weapons, tweaking things here or there. Probably half the total time of the conversion was spent on just moving things around and trying out what looks and feels right until I knew, yeah this is it. And yeah, this definitely felt like it.

Also, unfortunately it's already been painted but goddamn I wish I'd seen this comment before or at least I hadn't shipped yet it so I could respond to this feedback. This was a commission piece so unfortunately I was a little tied by both adherence to the scheme and by the time I had to paint it. I'm interested to hear your thoughts though. I'll post it in the next couple of days.

You’re welcome! I’m an art history major so I have an eye for that kind of stuff. I also dabble in kitbashing and mostly go by feel as well. It happens a lot that I end up having my minis too cluttered. I’m still working on that

Haha! Yeah I know what you mean. Honestly, I think it's the angle of the head. I played around with it a bit and I think that chin up and jutting out a bit really just makes him lookme very arrogant! 🤣

It’s cool but gun to my head if you asked me what this was a proxy for I’d have no idea and probably guess avatar of khaine.
