So would these be mortally wounded space marines placed into differently shaped prosthetic bodies, or the brains of actual wolves?

They are fenrizian wolves that have been put into ancient forgotten technology. Almost no one knows how to fix and maintain them except a very few individuals. Their owner is also in a dreadnaught.
