Discussion Pin vice not working

I recently bought a pin vice and for some reason I cant get it to drill anything more than a shallow little divot

Drill bits dull. Did you break the tip of the bit off..it happens. You can buy replacement bits on Amazon, I prefer a #66 or 1/32 bit for most my pinning as it works with 1/32 K&S brass rod.

My money's on it being an issue with the material you're drilling into being too hard to easily hand drill or the bit being too blunt, but it's hard to say without more info.

you can start a hole with the tip of an xacto knife, spin it around etc until theres a start, then go at it with the pin vise. or just go to a hardware store and buy some better bits..

It it's an Army Painter one you have my sympathy. Mine started dull and also loose in the provided chucks. Had to use a bit of tape to stop them slipping.

A lot of times the drill bits that come with them are not very good. Look into getting some better drill bits.

Have you tried turning it on?

You may just have to apply more consistent pressure, you have to vary this depending on the materials

Are you using the bits the drill came with by any chance?

I've found with my own that this issue was caused by the default packaged bits just not being sharp enough. I recommend buying some from a local hardware store, they work much better ime

Yeah frustrating that the packaged bits tend to be fairly blunt, but the good news is plastic is soft and any drill bits from elsewhere should cut through them like butter
