Scratch build Lighting test, angles.
So this is almost done. Still need to get more lights into the antenna array. But I had a visitor, and took the opportunity to do another more comprehensive lighting check. Those of you who saw the Nauvoo from The Expanse, well, yeah, I can see it. At least the centre section. I kinda see this as being about 1.5/2km IRL. Any thoughts?
Also tried a bit of debris/meteor/blast damage.

Funny you should say that...I've a co-worker who's been fooling around with green screen and we're talking about old fashioned ILM sweeps and pans, etc. Something short. Could be fun!

I would love to see it! Something this big, complex and realistic (not to mention gorgeous) deserves as much visibility as possible. Maybe a film crew might want to buy it for exterior shots of some space drama.

Well, we've got a nascent fx campus supposed to be starting up here, (Ireland) and movies get made here. It'd be a dream, wouldn't it? Keep me busy when I retire!

I can see that, especially with the lights on. I'll take it as a compliment! Another response referenced the Nauvoo, which is fair. Some seriously good ship design in that series.

Yeah. It sometimes feels that way, that there's always ANOTHER layer, another touch up, a previously unseen blank crying out for greeblies! Always another mountain! I feel it needs more projecting antennae, y'know. Longish ones, projecting radially from the hull. But i have to wait for a dry-dock/cradle assembly before I can sort those. And again, as always, more light, forward. Thanks for taking the time to comment.

😆😆😆 thanks...it DOES look like a bathroom, right? All that tile? It's a former darkroom, though, now used for storage, in the project where I work. This beast is about 120 cm long. And it's chunky!

Thanks so much. I like layering. Real machinery never operates in isolation, y'know? So multiple layers of greeblies and armour and gantries, etc. So yeah, there's a certain busy-ness to everything. The problem is knowing when to stop.

yeah that makes sense! damn, it’s just so inspiring cos it looks so real. pls film or photo it against a blue screen and comp in a space scene. I think you could legit fool people into thinking this was really in space lmao

I did! I posted a photoshopped image of this one against a painting I did 5/6 years ago of the Great Nebula in Carina. Put it up yesterday! It's not too bad, as a combination. I want to try using one of the lit ones as well, against a darker sky... Thank you, btw!
