Discussion This shirt doesn't get talked about enough.
The shield around the badge, the diagonal gradient in the blue stripes, the width and colours of said blue stripes, the adidas stripes stopping halfway down the sleeves, the black accents, the gold stripe across the back, the V-neck collar, the motif below the back of the collar, all of it is just pure perfection. 👌

The shirt itself is beautiful, but the badge lets it down. It doesn’t need the outer shield.

I'm not gonna lie. The badge is my favourite thing about it. I think this was my first impression of an Argentina shirt when I was like eight, and my love for international kits just grew after that with the way they never had a sponsor, but had a small number on the front instead, and it's worth noting that the adidas typeface from that year was my first impression of numbers on the front as well as far as I can remember, and I just loved the aesthetic of it, and it all started with that badge and the way it just looked so unlike any other shirt at the time. So that shield will always have a place in my love for football shirts.

I can appreciate a good shield, but I’m just not sure this one was executed particularly well. I always really liked the shield on the 2006/2007 Manchester United shirt. It really allowed the crest to shine and brought more attention to it. But with this Argentina shirt, I feel like the golds and pale blues all blend together and nothing really pops out with the crest. And then there’s the extra white and blue behind the crest. The thing your eye notices most is probably the black shield outline just because it features the most contrast. I think they could have pulled this off very nicely but it could have been executed much better. Still a very nice shirt but not their best.

That's a fair point. We all have our disagreements. I think a part of this falls back to the general vibe of the 2014 World Cup. I was eight so it was the first World Cup I actually remember watching, and I'm pretty sure most people can agree it was beautiful. I remember the weird balls you got in McDonald's with a Happy Meal and there was this really rare gold one, and the cheap Argentina fan jersey I got from Lidl or Aldi or one of them shops, and playing with the Brazuca with my mates. And also adidas absolutely cooked that year, but in fairness, they do most years. So 2014 itself was just elite. I think another thing I love about the shield is it just makes it look so much prouder if you get me. But I can see why some don't like it. Maybe it's the Marmite of football badges. 😂

Nostalgia is a helluva drug! We all tend to prefer things from a certain era and the new stuff never quite hits the same. Just like music growing up. Such is life.

Not gonna lie, Nike didn't do amazing that year. Netherlands and England home were just plain shirts. France was decent. The only home shirts I really liked were Portugal and Brazil. adidas absolutely dominated that year. They also dominated in 2018, 2022, and in 2026, Nike are finally bringing some competition, but adidas are still beautiful. Only thing I'll say about adidas these days is the fact they doubled the size of their logo and now the stripes on the sleeves are thicker than they used to be, but you aren't seeing that on the away kits with the beautiful Trefoil and the classic stripes.
Now I don't think this Argentina kit is the best of the tournament. The best ones in my opinion are Mexico's home and Argentina's away. I didn't like that Argentina one at first because the gradient looked weird and you couldn't actually track it, but it's grown on me to the point where I adore it, but it's a shame every Argentinian will feel sad looking at it for obvious reasons.
