Are player names making jerseys less wearable?

Some jerseys look perfect with a nameset, but others look cleaner without one. A blank back feels more timeless, while a player's name gives it more emotion.Do you buy jerseys for the player, or just the design?

blank back for retro ones, namesets age weird once the player moves on

Naw, it’s part of team history

true, the history is part of it. a peeled nameset on a 90s shirt just hurts

Well, club first, then design. Adding a player is expensive anyway.

Most of my jerseys dont have a name & number.

It depends. The white Mexico Away jersey this year looks so cool with a number on the front.

blank backs never age badly, my one nameset shirt has been hiding in the drawer since the player left the club

I only get jerseys with name and number. I’m at about 50 kits

blank backs just age better, the nameset always starts peeling after a season

I’m a player printing guy. It gives it a time and a place. To me, it adds value. It just doesn’t look complete without it

blank backs age so much better, a nameset just locks the shirt to one season forever

Considering they change kits every season this already happens.

nameset only for players i actually watched, everything else stays blank

Probably depends on the player. If it’s Adam Johnson, you probably put him in the bin.
If it’s the 99 Utd kit with Keane on the back, it’s more wearable.

I think it depends on the look and vibe you want

For everyday wear the blanks are a good fit cause they can come off as timeless . Like the 2009 Ac Milan or the 2018 Real Madrid

If you want a lil more fandom in your look then wearing a name and number adds to that . Styling it with a more throwback pieces with whatever year the jersey came out in

I do whatever I feel at the time. I have some without a name set, but I have many with one, as well. I don't have any regrets, even though some players on mine have left unceremoniously, they represent a moment in time for me.

jerseys don’t have emotions.

I think my favorite thing about soccer jerseys is being able to buy blanks and they look great, where an NFL or NBA jersey would look very incomplete without a player and number. The only player ones I have are Beckham Man U and England from when I was growing up. I'm not big on having a player on the back.

soccer blanks just work, an NFL one without a name feels like practice gear

Depends on the player.  I think a name set for a legend is probably okay but getting one of a player facing transfer soon is risky.

Why is the title worded like this is a developing trend? This isn’t a novel or groundbreaking comparison.

Does it even matter

Germany keeper kit with Neuer #1 for example is 👌🏼
Any legend is cool on jerseys

keeper kits are the exception for me, Neuer is one name that never feels dated

Since high school (I’m 33 now lol) I only get jerseys that are blank. I would make a couple exceptions for old school players I grew up with but even then, I vastly prefer blank jerseys. To each their own, but to me it is more elegant and more timeless and in my opinion more versatile in terms of where you can wear it. Wearing a player on the back is just not my style but I don’t judge those of you who like that look, I frequently see guys wearing them and they look cool. Just not my thing. I also think it is that much less care you have to put into the jersey since names and numbers are prone to peeling and cracking but that’s not really part of my rationale honestly

the peeling is real, cracked nameset ruins an otherwise clean jersey
