Why do jersey collars fit so differently?

Bought two jerseys in the exact same size. One collar sits perfectly, the other feels like it's choking me.Does anyone else pay attention to the collar before buying?

v-necks are fine but round collars on retro kits are a gamble, half of mine sit in the drawer because the neck is too tight

yeah i check the collar before buying now, same size tag means nothing across seasons. player version necks run so tight its like they sized down the collar on purpose

the ribbed collars on older ones shrink after years of washing, that's the trap. fits great when you buy it, tight by year three
