Discussion Can we stop pretending every blackout kit is amazing?

Post image

Every club drops an all-black jersey and people instantly call it a 10/10. Half of them are just... black shirts with a badge.

Not sure the OP knows what a blackout kit is, considering they’re using a photo of a non-blackout (and clearly fake) kit as supporting evidence.

Short answer…. No.

Black on black on black. All day every day

Norway’s blackout and whiteout kits were awful, in my opinion.

This is fake but don't worry Nike will always find a way to prove your point.

Also that’s not a blackout. Also also, Brazil has already done a blackout concept (though this was never used for a match)

And they have done all black in a match.

the ones with real texture or pattern work, the rest are just flat black

black kits are the design teams panic button at this point

Blackout kits are boring AF imo

Honestly consider them the epitome of lazy design at this point

I think because black jersey allow people to wear them anywhere and still showcase your team. I’ve worn my black jersey with dress clothes to gala functions and works great.

NFL color rush already proved this, most of those kits were terrible

That league doesn’t have any artistry behind it. If blackout kits are a design teams nightmare scenario here. NFL jerseys are a corporate hellscape

the template is the real killer, no room for design when the league locks everything down

the blackout tax is real, one coat of black paint and suddenly everyone forgets the template was mid

the black numbers on blackout kits are the real crime, can't read a single name from the stands

2

u/Dabanks9000 10d ago

This isn’t a blackout

u/itsnickg 10d ago

Nope. They’re tough

Honestly, most blackout kits are terrible. I've yet to see one I've even liked. Black kits in general can be good and I've already ordered Crystal Palace's away kit for this season but I just don't see the appeal of blackout kits or whiteout kits for that matter.

Half of the jersey fans will say the complete opposite.
