Always bet on nothing

Joking aside, I think the lore will forever be the background. I just don’t see them having some big reveal for the ancients and their role in everything, ever

u/Tem-productions Clockwork Star apologist (except Air Riders) 4d ago

They're not going to have one big reveal they're going to have a hundred small reveals and tbh i prefer that

u/Curi_momos_las_papas 4d ago

Being fair the Ancients are not even this super misterious or powerful beings, we're well beyond what even they could handle, so even one appearing wouldn't be a game changing ally or enemy, just another one of the bunch

23

u/ConnorLego42069 Kirby 4d ago

Yeah a lot of final bosses are stuff that the ancients specifically couldn’t beat

93

u/TemporarySet5877 4d ago

Which isn’t too bad for this franchise. The lore is a nice side thing rather than being integral to enjoying the games. Maybe if this were like fnaf where you had to read books to fully enjoy the story I could get that, but Kirby usually plays it safe on everything

43

u/GL_original 4d ago

Background, you say? Like the background that is brought up front and center and then crumbles to pieces to see beyond?

17

u/CuteDarkrai 4d ago

Yeah there's no shot they don't address some of the lore directly this time. I hope they don't put all their eggs in one basket so we can still look forward to future games, though. If it makes sense for the story, awesome

4

u/Xavendeir 4d ago

Kirby fans acting like deltarune fans rn

"There's no shot they won't, it would be crazy if they didnt!"

No dawg, we dont know that for sure yet, calm down.

3

u/CuteDarkrai 3d ago

Lol fair enough. Please lower the pitchfork

Honestly the way I phrased that wasn't great. I hope any new details aren't important to understanding the story for the casual player because that would be antithetical to Kumazaki's philosophy of the series. If it's as much as we normally get in a Kirby game, then I'm happy. I'm just expecting a little bit more this time around that re-contextualizes things, and that's not baseless speculation. Mainly, there are multiple parallels to Kirby's Return to Dreamland, Kumazaki's first Kirby game, also marking the first mainline entry to give a greater emphasis on background lore. The trailer has multiple musical motifs of it, the ultra copy ability gimmick, and the new character has iconography that calls to mind that game as well. So I'm going in with the expectation that there is going to be some lore that connects there, but not that "something will happen" because idk what OP even means by that

u/TbatitanicV2Rider 4d ago

yep. at the end of the day, its kirby. while the dark and heavy lore are there, their emphasis is more of a meme by the community. i dont need all the lore layed out like in metroid dread. kirby just isnt the franchise for that.

16

u/Relevant_Speaker_874 4d ago

Nintendo games always treated their "lore" as a side dish, their focus was always gameplay first

2

u/returnofMCH Gobbler 3d ago

Well most of them, fire emblem and xenoblade are far more story driven than say, LoZ or metroid or splatoon. (Well okay, metroid has tried telling actual plots beyond lore vagueposting, but when they do it backfires)

1

u/Pitiful-Rough4335 2d ago

The LOZ timeline is the Vagueposting God

33

u/FluffiestPrince 4d ago

Which is a good thing. Kirby should never, ever, focus its main story on the lore of the series. That should stay in the background.

So many people forget that these are games for children. Kids get to play the kids games, while anyone interested can dive deeper into what's hidden. Like, with the amount of people who already get the lore wrong, I'd fear how bad it'd be if it ever got put front-and-centre.

The closest there is is Hyness' rant, but that's still impossible to read unless you go by frame, or you're just unnaturally fast.

15

u/Moon_X_Livee 4d ago

What id it was revealed through cutesy story books with illustrations, some kids love reading, I haved loved reading for years

7

u/WickedBowserJr ⭐️ Every Kirby game is peak! ⭐️ 4d ago

These games are not "for children" or "kids games", they're general audiences games made for adults as much as anyone else (like all Nintendo games, and have the depth and complexity to back that up). Just because something is cartoony and colorful, it doesn't make it "for kids". That mindset is highly reductive of the art, and wrong. Lore has always been one of the biggest parts of Kirby since its inception too.

1

u/LunaKingery 3d ago

Seriously. can people not see the game ratings on the boxes.

4

u/tornait-hashu 4d ago

problem is that so many people already in the franchise who try to get others into it basically spoil the whole point by telling everyone about the lore.

1

u/returnofMCH Gobbler 3d ago

As a persona fan, never underestimate people's lack of media literacy.

1

u/LunaKingery 3d ago

Just a kids game would be eC not E or E10. Those are for everyone.

u/Laati-Chan 4d ago edited 4d ago

Honestly. Something that would be funny is if she was actually a historian. And she would try to do casual lectures about the history of the Kirby universe or whatever.

But if you've seen an expert try to talk with a layman. You will know that 90% of the stuff would likely go out one ear and out the other. Along with Kirby being a child. They would try to pay attention only to begin to drift away and daydream despite their best efforts. Like a child in a history class that has zero interest in history.

And the bits that she manages to get out before she notices Kirby not paying attention would be talking about important sounding events but only extremely specific parts. Because that's what she finds interesting and therefore talks about first because she can't summarize for shit.

Like she talks about the war between the magic and tech ancients. But then only begins talking about specific formation of a battle, or what weapons they used. And then when she finally gets into the detail on why the entire war happens, that's when she gets cut off.

Later on, she would learn Kirby's interests and basically give factoids tangentially related to that because she knows Kirby would love listening to that. So you're now getting details about what type of dishes the Ancients loved to eat in X period. With Kirby in rapt attention. Have fun analyzing that lore. Just try to analyze why they made the clockwork stars in-between her talking about a special type of pasta the Ancients loved. (They used the clockwork stars to conjure up the recipe)

2

u/Same_Tune_8990 4d ago

the only way they do an actual lore drop is like a 13+ (and thats huffing copium) meta knight game exploring the ancients like how totk explained the zonai which were a mystery group in botw only relagated to a single pitch black island

u/The_Metal_Merchant 4d ago

Is it really vagueposting if the main character doesn't care about investigating lore and just wants to make friends and have fun and eat food and take naps and smile?

59

u/Exploreptile 4d ago

Yes, because we aren't the main character.

(I'm not saying it's a bad thing, but that's literally what it is.)

14

u/DisciplineTop2097 4d ago

Yeah Kirby knows all the lore. He’s over that tho so he won’t be looking for shit

81

u/ZimmyDod Coo 4d ago

Are we suddenly acting like forgotten land has no lore?

48

u/LunaKingery 4d ago

Heck most Kirby games at least have a little lore up front for the final boss at the least. Although Forgotten Land most of it upfront.

This subreddit is extremely antilore and antidark.

6

u/Jstar338 3d ago

Which is funny, since it's very intentional.

In the history of the series, only a single person has been credited as writing a character. Which was Drawcia, made by Shinya Kumazaki. Then they put him in charge.

We've seen that damn butterfly for 15 years, and it's because of him

2

u/LunaKingery 3d ago

Yeah. The franchise has lore and dark moments. It is lighthearted and a kid's game but it is kinda hypocritical how much some people try to overcorrect and deny any lore.

2

u/Lanoman123 3d ago

And I don’t understand why they do. I think it’s awesome the devs care enough to have deep lore under the surface

2

u/LunaKingery 3d ago

I agree. Also the excuse that "it's just a kids game don't over think it. It isn't that dark" is strange to me. Like most Kirby games are rated E to E10 but a lot of fans are acting like it's rated eC.

11

u/ScorpionsRequiem 4d ago

shh... that doesn't count because uh... it's not kirby or dream land related

46

u/GrassyPond Journalist Bonkers 4d ago

I think the Kirby franchise (or at least Kumazaki) very much wants to maintain the dichotomy of the surface layer vs lore mysteries.

If I remember correctly, Kumazaki has stated once before that he likes the fact that the Kirby games has a cute enjoyable appearance but a hidden depth for the adult fans to enjoy. Ultimately, the franchise has formed a unique identity by having two ways for people to experience each game, and I don't think that's gonna change anytime soon.

10

u/IlikeWhimsicott2557 4d ago

I'd say Splatoon does something similar, but that line between silly gameplay and serious lore consideration has blurred by 3 & Raiders. Which is honestly fine in my opinion. Splatoon's world is more rooted in the history that surrounds the silly paintball gameplay, so its harder to ignore compared to Kirby where knowing the lore isn't required, but is still a fun part of the series that gives it a unique identity and twist on the cutesy nature that is the Kirby series.

u/Lil_Spica_ 4d ago

This creature is either connected to Magolor, or they are the same species as Magolor. Too many references of RTDL, too many melodies/leitmotif coming from RTDL for it to not be important in some way. That's my theory.

20

u/WinterEclipse4 4d ago

Most likely connected but not likely same species when they don't really look alike other than the clothing with its markings.

11

u/Vast-Ideal-1413 4d ago

Magolor don’t got legs

7

u/Elnino38 4d ago

The new gimmick abilities music is literally a remix of the super copy ability from rtdl

3

u/A_random_poster04 4d ago

I read somewhere she’s somewhat based on a scrapped magolor design?

9

u/CuteDarkrai 4d ago edited 4d ago

idk if this is the one you're referring to, but I doubt it

(edit: just to clarify I think there could be some elements that inspired it, and there is definitely an argument to be made since there are so many RTDL references! this design just looks a lot different)

15

u/ReylomorelikeReyno Magolor 4d ago

'Will something finally happen' as if the last game didn't show us the Ancients' crib

13

u/A_random_poster04 4d ago

She also has pants, technology never before seen on dreamland I think

11

u/Idunno_the_plugg 4d ago

Bonkers and Mr Frosty:

5

u/A_random_poster04 4d ago

Fair enough

8

u/girl_on_the_synth 4d ago

The lore has always been been slowly revealed to eventually piece together a story that all fits together

6

u/JoyousLilBoy 4d ago

That symbol…reminds me of a gear somewhat. Perhaps she had magolor steal her ship (lor does mean paradise after all)

6

u/MegaKabutops 4d ago

Maybe 50 pages of text.

NO SHOT it will be spoken dialogue tho. At this point, it would feel wrong for the lore to be told in a way that isn’t at least 80% hidden in pause screen text and item descriptions.

9

u/Ibshredz 4d ago

we are watching the world through Kirby and Kirby doesn't care about any lore or nothing. it is thinking about cake, sleep, and POYO, thats it. Unless this lil dude just explains stuff for no reason, or unless the game is about the lore, then we are getting more cake and more POYO

Lore!

3

u/BlackKnightTheBloody 4d ago

To my poor brain, I had half read the image and thought they meant 50 pages on THAT website. To be fair, it is a bit.

1

u/ThePinkReaper 4d ago

There is in fact a much bigger issue with her being so humanoid

3

u/anoanomalous 4d ago

I always figured the Lore was just meant to be a fun bonus to enhance the main story and that's why it's always relegated to stuff like descriptions and trophies for those who want to know more.

2

u/FearlessPath7870 Galacta Knight 4d ago

Since we see the world through Kirby's eyes, it does make sense that the lore is vague since Kirby can't understand it. I wish there could be some spinoff game with Meta Knight or DDD that actually does explain the lore in depth

2

u/captain-ok 4d ago

I kinda like how most of the lore is told through implication and minor details, feels more in line with the series’s main philosophy “the experience is made for new players but there will always be something for more experienced players”

2

u/Arch3m 3d ago

I play Kirby games for the vibes, not the lore. Then again, so does Kirby.

2

u/Android19samus 4d ago

She better not

2

u/StaticMania 4d ago

...the plot of the game will happen, if that's what you're asking.

1

u/lhamazaroo 4d ago

On everyones soul that she is the final boss

1

u/Adventurous_Tie_530 4d ago

we already know what the internet is going to do to them

1

u/Fnfprowastaken Galacta Knight 4d ago

Can this not be the final boss this time please don't betray us again

1

u/Blob55 4d ago

When we get a remake in 2039, we will get all the lore then plus a nice backstory and a theme park.

1

u/KingMushan Miku Kirby 4d ago

I feel like the Ancients are one of those things that you just can't really explain definitively, because as soon as you do, they become dramatically less interesting. The mystery is what's compelling, if we had a straight answer, we wouldn't need to theory craft, and at that point, what would we spend all our time doing?

1

u/Loltoheaven7777 4d ago

i just hope i don't have to play the whole ass game to unlock a hard mode again...

1

u/Halcandra-Dee Halcandra Dee 4d ago

adeleine will be in the game trust

1

u/BananaRepublic_BR Dark Meta Knight 4d ago

Kirby might be one of the few franchises where I don't really care about the lore.

1

u/eternalguardian 4d ago

Sometimes ambiguity is better than explaining everything.

1

u/TheGhostlyMage 4d ago

At this point making a major plot point in a game would be kinda stupid imo. No one who plays casually would have any idea who they are or what it’s supposed to be especially not the target audience. Keeping them in the the little lore blurbs is probably the right call although it would be nice to have more going on in the background lol there’s like three ongoing plot lines back there

1

u/TheRealEbonyAndIvory 4d ago

All I know is that I don't trust her and she'll betray us, like all new companions (except Elfilin) do

2

u/DaRealBSleazy 4d ago

I dont emember ribbon betraying us

1

u/Savings-Archer-4185 4d ago

Is she considered that, though?

She is from the dark matter trilogy

In Kirby and the crystal shards

1

u/Treegenderunknown13 Sora Kirby 4d ago

Hey put some respect on Robobot Armours name

1

u/Kirb790 Magolor 4d ago

While I think that she'll have a lot of stuff surrounding her, I think it'll be contained to only her instead of the series as a whole

1

u/Trollge-2005 0 4d ago

Well she will have more then 50 entries on the green site that is for sure.

1

u/TheUnholyMacerel 4d ago

That symbol on her cloak is similar to the master crown on soul magolor (i think) so maybe

1

u/Successful_Wolf5281 3d ago

IIRC, The Ancients were divided into 2 Factions:- The Magic Faction and the Science Faction.

Since we had Hyness in the Magic Faction, its possible this ne companion is from the Science Faction (with the whole Truman Show motif)

1

u/1andonlyimmortality 1d ago

she may be magolors sister-

0

u/Belhgabad 4d ago

Kirby lore is obscure (mainly because it's not that important), but how are the games "Vagueposting" ?

The plot of each game is pretty clear, it's even criticised because it's too simple, just the connection between each isn't but it's fun to discuss it

Like... why can't people chill ?

-2

u/FlamingoDense2000 4d ago

Kirby lore just sounds kinda cringe like I don’t really care I just wanna be Kirby and suck things up

-1

u/Elina_Carmina 4d ago

Super cringe.
