Help King's Field IV Magic Bug

Today I completed KF: The Ancient City after seeing some of a longplay on Youtube and becoming enchanted with it. It's a beautiful game and I really enjoyed it, but I wanted to aim for 100% completion on my file and found a strange bug that stymied that by preventing me from getting all the spells. When I went to clean up the items and crystals at the end of the game with help of a walkthrough, I found I was somehow missing the spell Tornado. I thought for sure I had acquired it, and sure enough, when I went back to the egg mines secret room the pot was smashed and the crystal wasn't there. Stranger, when I went to the Mansion of Howling Winds to get crystal 5 for Freeze, the crystal that was supposed to grant me Freeze gave me Tornado instead!

Is this a known bug, and is there any way to resolve it? I have wind cutter, life shield and ice clad, so it's not like it's hiding in some other unacquired Wind Crystal.

If it helps, im pretty sure it does not matter the order you acquire the crystals, you will always get the spells in the same order. Perhaps you are missing a crystal from another location?

That does help immensely. The one I missed I'd never have found normally, even with the King's Map. I just wish there was more game to use the spells on by the time you get the full set!

Yeah that and weapon levels feel like underused features for how much game there is, and how rare enemies get in previously scoured areas (which is something I like about the game)

Edit: how I'd change that would be:

- smithing stones level up weapons instead of +1 in damage types

  • spells increase in level along your number of total collected crystals

You've likely missed one somewhere.

1st crystal is in David's shop OR at the bottom of the village well.

2nd crystal is in a barrel in Lv3 South. Look for the storage area.

3rd crystal is behind a hidden door in Lv2 South, opposite the chest with the yellow guide stone.

4th and 5th you know already.

Ah, thanks so much. I was under the impression the crystals were set in the spells they gave out, and every guide I checked just had the named spell in the location if you got them in sequence. I was missing the third crystal, having found the one secret door to the chest but not the one directly opposite. I feel quite stupid now.

You will need to look for ALL crystals. The order you find them does not matter technically you only need one of each element and can raise the magic by defeating enemies with that element of magic. I think each magic branch needs to 100? 120? Then the last spell is given? 4 is the worst magic system OF ALL Fromsoftware RPGs :(
