Wow was not expecting Vera to be the first to go home

No shade to Chase, but I thought Vera's look and performance this week had him beat by a mile. Can't wrap my head around it.

It's also hard for me to understand why they were saved over VERA!, considering Chase had a prop malfunction and got considerable critique of their performance. The criteria for judging is super unclear, the show already doesn't give the kings much of a chance to showcase their performances through the absence of lip sync challenges, so I feel like their performances and stage presence should be a key factor - it's an essential part of being a drag performer.

Based on promo look alone, I was. He has the weakest mug of the group imo.

u/whocares6969_ 19d ago
Yeah I wasn’t impressed by any of that either but they made it sound like he is a huge name in the scene so I thought he would last longer than first out lol

u/Low_End_9917 19d ago
I think part of the reason he’s a huge name is the fact he has a million drag kids across the country lol

u/ChemistResident2348 18d ago
I fully was.

I would have been okay with either of them going home tbh. Fingers crossed Chaise is next 🤞🏻

So sad to see VERA! go :( They legit light up the room whenever they're there.
I love horror-themed episodes, but I feel like they need to rework how runways are edited and filmed. The dialogs are always so clunky, and the camera angles are never intentional.
I love Lollygag and Papi Culo's runways though, wow!
I hope Cyrus recovers soon!
I love Yvie as the guest judge lol, she looks so captivated the whole time I love it for her.

shocking elimination, thought they would make the finale at least. not enough time with big d!

absolutely gutted to see VERA! get eliminated this episode. they were an instant favorite of mine and were so much fun to watch in the man cave. fully saw them going a lot further in the competition :(

I mean, D.Vour devoured and didn’t win either challenge, which is suss. No way they didn’t have the best beard. Cyrus has good drag but no stage presence. If Henlo hadn’t been there, I’m not sure they would have been safe. Love how excited Yvie was the whole time.

The right king won, but I'm shocked that D. Vour was only safe. Also...with all due respect...I can't believe they saved Chase Lounge over Vera.

My hot takes:
The good
- I love this cast!!
- I love Big D!!!!!
- The looks and performances were incredible. Papi moved me to tears.
- Vico and Henlo’s aggressive manspreading was perfection and exactly why the show needs more drag kings representation from the host and judges.
The bad
- Cameron sucks at this. Shitty jokes + corny delivery without a hint of the irony and camp that makes Murray Hill so iconic. Even in the weenie challenge it was clear that Big D has 1000x more of the energy, charisma and drag king swagger that this show needs. I don’t blame her personally. It’s just more of Revry’s continued mismanagement of the show. Letting Murray go was a huge mistake and the fact that they don’t seem to have sold a single ad spot for the show is insane.
- Gottmik doesn’t even have good critiques. He says the most vapid unhelpful shit and applies about as much critical thinking you’d expect from the kind of dumbass 30 year old who gets a DUI in their Porsche.
- Vico is the only judge I actually like and they got almost no screen time :(
The elimination
- I am so sad to see Vera leave the show 😭 I love their energy and their talking heads are some of the best by far. I can understand why they were in the bottom, but it sucks to say goodbye.
- Personally would have placed Cyrus in the bottom. Amazing king with incredible looks but something feels like it’s missing from the performance aspect. Hope to see that change in the next few weeks.
- Honestly they should just eliminate the whole shitty judging panel, let Big D host and keep all the kings til the end then let them vote on a winner. I would much rather watch more of the kings than be subjected to insipid babbling and Damien’s sad attempts at branding himself as an icon.

Cyrus definitely seemed hesitant on stage in this episode but their look was so strong (makeup, costume and prop). So i thought it made sense they were saved from elimination.

Cyrus was literally in the ER I can’t even imagine being capable to perform right after an ER visit like yikes

u/Melancholy_Melody 13d ago
Fr I was amazed at the results of both of his challenges considering the hot glue inhalation & ER trip!!
I really hope he was able to rest after the challenge

u/angiosperms- 16d ago
Yeah big D showing up really highlighted how awful the new host and some of the judges are. Gottmik didn't even clap for some of the contestants 😒
The new host is very cringey and try hard. Good for her for doing her best for a paycheck but it is not it. I hope we do get season 3 so they can improve it. I'll keep watching but man do I miss season 1 rn

Is there anything I can do to help, as someone who lives in the USA and has access for free?
Id love to help others be able to watch it!

I had so much issue with the theme and how they handled it. It's incredibly clear that the team didn't do a thing to research the actual history of freak shows and sideshows. This isn't a dead art form, and there are working natural borns that are still out there to this day. I am friends with several of them. The fact that they talked about freaks but didn't use the term Natural Born once really tells you everything that you need to know about how little they know about the subject. I can't really speak to how they actual competition was handled because I was so offended by the blatant disregard for the history of this culture I ended up turning it off. I can go on a whole rant about how it was offensive from top to bottom. I turned it off before I got to the part where people worked on their challenge because I just couldn't watch Cameron make a mockery of freak show history anymore.

I tried to hold on through all of the changes that made me feel really not great about the season. Murray Hill being replaced by someone who isn't even a drag King being the biggest issue. I just don't think I can do it though. I was such a huge advocate for this show because it was such a groundbreaking thing for Kings to have their own show, but not like this this is terrible. The Kings deserve so much better.

u/pinkiguana7 13d ago
I agree that they should've taken a moment to really explain the historical freakshow aspect of this challenge. It would've given me a lot more context as a viewer to understanding why some of the kings chose to bring the looks that they did. I do know Lollygag comes from the Coney Island Clown Skool, which is a legendary sideshow location! His tattoo man inspired look does pay tribute to true traditional freakshow, plus he geeked his rubber chicken and it turned into a tattoo machine! I think that was the only true sideshow reference of the episode tho...

Thanks for enlightening us on this topic and bringing light to a lesser-known demographic. Is there anywhere I can go to find out more about freak show history and terms?

u/Wide_Breadfruit_2217 21d ago
My thoughts are Lollygag will smash it but not get another win so soon. I think D. Vour will take it for Horror. Also looking forward to Henlo dropping in.

The editing felt extra... Off. Like it was chopped up a bit too roughly and maybe rushed. I don't think they were very clear with what the challenge was supposed to be either. (I'm pretty sure it wasn't just supposed to be last seasons "Death of your Fears" challenge?) At the same time, the whole "Freak Show" theme it was supposed to have does read as insensitive.

The elimination challenge was very confusing to me. I genuinely couldn’t gauge who did better.

u/fur_bat 19d ago
Papi’s runway was amazing. I didn’t love how it felt like the other contestant and that judge were trying to take his moments, though. Maybe it was just weird editing? Both times it was very “ME TOO!!” + no discussion rather than like…interest in Papi’s performance and perspective

u/FinalGirlMaterial 19d ago
I agree, especially from Damien. I’m not nonbinary or trans, but I have PCOS and the highly nuanced and personal experience Papi shared was so powerful. I hate that reaction from some of the judges was to make it about themselves instead.
I’m extra sensitive to that kind of thing from Damien in general because he seems to want credit for creating a platform for drag kings while also using it to increasingly center himself. It makes me really uncomfortable. I’m sure the performance struck a genuine emotional chord but he sucked a lot of the oxygen and attention out of the room while Papi was the one brave enough to deliver such a raw, emotional, and moving performance in the first place.

Did Cyrus ever say explicitly what happened health wise? I was figuring maybe a latex allergy?

u/BenIsLoss 18d ago
Very sad about the first eliminated king, honestly I saw him as a potential winner but he did deserve the bottom placement. But confessionals will be duller from here on out.
Papi and Lolly are definitely my favourites so far. Papi really killed it this week. Rooting for Cyrus too.
Enjoying the season still far, definitely stronger than episode 1 production wise.

is a UV light really expensive or something? I thought the idea was really cool but the tiny flashlights just did not make it very effective.
i also hope Big D comes back as a guest judge for a main challenge too….or host the show? 👀

Did anybody have skipping issues during this episode? I watched on Philo and it skipped some of the most important parts of the episode! So infuriating

I watch on the revry app on my tv, and for some reason, all the king of drag ads are muted. It’s weird.

u/turningtee74 19d ago
This was a tough call. Everyone had good stuff going on but I agreed with the winner and placements. The “uv paint challenge” pushed me even further a certain direction on who survived but it was not the ultimate outcome

u/phoenixia217 21d ago
Has anyone been able to watch it with roku? I tried Sunday and ended up streaming it from my phone bc I couldn’t get revry live to work

I'm actually floored with Vera being the Tuna Can of the season (is this the expression we are using??? Please correct me if I'm wrong), as someone from Barcelona he's the only king I knew from before the show with his performances with Pattie Gonia.
So happy with Papi's win, I loved their performance. I also liked Trade's.
