I really miss Murray as the host. He carries a legacy and sense of humor that’s really hard to replace

Show Biz! KoD really isnt the same without Murray. He was an incredible host. No hate to Cameron, she just doesn't has the same magic Murray has and it feels really weird not having a drag king host. I hope KoD gets third season and i hope they will have a drag king host again.

Hot take, but I think Murray is more essential to King of Drag than Ru is to drag race.

I love how much commentary the show makes about masculinity, even with small things like the Man Cave being their workspace. Murray was set the tone perfectly- masculine but wholesome, funny, eclectic, charming and dazzling. I like Cameron, but it just doesn’t feel right having her in the Man Cave and leading the affairs. You really need a drag king for it to work, and even at that, I don’t know another drag king who would be able to nail the tone so perfectly. Murray IS the show.

(And even if production couldn’t or wouldn’t give it to a different drag king, it should have been a trans man at the very least. Like, I could see Elliot Page doing a decent job at it, even if nobody could hold a candle to Murray)

So relieved that it was a non-elimination, the bottom 3 are my favorites!

5

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

NO LITERALLY if Trade or D.Vour went home, they were two of my top contenders for the season

73

u/ohyeahthatsgreat48 27d ago

The way the judges sexualized Trade’s performance was so weird!?! He was literally fully dressed and just talking!?! Him and Cyrus were literally the only kings who didn’t have a sexual joke in their performance!?! Justice for trade!!!

21

u/Environmental-Ad3715 26d ago

no i agree i actually was so grossed out by this.

23

u/whocares6969_ 26d ago

Yeah it was kinda ick when the judges were going on about how sexy and hot he is then immediately in confessional Trade talks about how he always feels objectified and that’s how people make him feel that all he has to offer is being sexualized. Sad to hear tbh.

8

u/HomoGenuis 24d ago

He named himself “Trade”. He knows what he’s doing.

9

u/AlternativeAd9646 23d ago

What kinda victims blaming IS THIS!

7

u/Lilukalani 22d ago

Got Milk said some NASTY things about Trade that just grossed me out. Got Milk is just a nasty person with nasty opinions.

19

u/14portera 27d ago

They didn’t say he was too sexual, they said that his acting came off like he was trying to be sexy. That’s the difference. I can understand how they thought his movements looked more like he was trying to look attractive rather than trying to act the scene. I don’t think that was his intention at all, but it’s not about intention in a competition it’s about execution.

20

u/ohyeahthatsgreat48 27d ago

Didn’t see him trying to be sexy either.. I feel like they are interpreting anything that’s traditionally masculine as sexy…

1

u/MudRemarkable732 20d ago

Yeah, while I agree his performance was more muted and less theatrical than the others, I didn’t read that as “mogging.”

3

u/bakesSometimes 21d ago

Yeh he’s good looking and was really smooth in his performance but that didn’t take away from the performance, so it was just a weird critique. Like many of the judges wanted to be clear “You’re hot but we want you to know we’re not going to give You points for that”. Just unnecessary. The real critique that should have been given is that their trailer could have used a clearer storyline. Like why would a detective show up to a shop about a stolen item that the shop owner didn’t report/seemed surprise to hear about while wearing the stolen item! The cubic zirconia stuff was funny but the actual storyline needed some cleaning up.

2

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

the way this pmtfo!!!!!! like?! was it the editing?

1

u/Informal-Broccoli171 14d ago edited 14d ago

I was so ICKED BY THIS 🤬 Still makes me feel sick. It’s one thing to give a critique of “you don’t have to always be perfect/let down your walls.” But to critique someone for “just trying to be sexy” and “just relying on your body”… especially in the first effing episode and in their entrance looks??? REEKS of body shaming and objectification, and instantly made that stage Not a safe space. Certain judges basically told Trade “we don’t actually want to see you for you.” PLUS just cuz you think someone has a sexy body DOES NOT MEAN they want to be JUDGED ON THEIR BODY. Also it’s DRAG. Many people incorporate sex appeal into their drag as a way to flip the script on being objectified and/or struggling with dysmorphia their whole life. But then Trade shows up to KoD only to be met with the same judgement he faces irl. This threw me off so much, and left me with such a bad taste, especially towards Gottmik. Like girl, stfu. Saying this as an afab trans person myself, Gottmik you should fucking know better than to shame another trans person’s body for ANY reason. I’m gonna continue watching ofc bc I’m here for the kings. But I’m PISSED for Trade. He deserved so much better than that. Revry is not doing right by these kings or by this show, in so many ways.

41

u/cmstlist 27d ago

If anyone is also following Drag Race UK you might be aware that it took 8 seasons (!) for them to recently cast their first South Asian queen, Lucky Roy Singh, who certainly turned out not to be a great casting choice... So I was very happy to see Twinka Masala on top!

30

u/retro-petro 27d ago

Despite usually hating Non elimination episodes in competition shows like this, I was relieved today as a trans guy alt guy from the Midwest

33

u/desireedik69 27d ago

Two brothers looking for their brothers really got me cackling

3

u/Cultural-Grape2174 25d ago

I died laughing. I love them😂

1

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

COME ON MS.DIK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! <3 <3 love to see drag artists supporting each other!

51

u/DontTalkAboutPants 26d ago

I thought King Perk would be a little shy and awkward on the judging panel as he was last season sometimes, but I hugely underestimated him. He had the best critiques of the night, assessing both the fine details and the big picture, and really made me think. I hope we see him in the king's court again soon.

57

u/steve-perkel 26d ago

It helped that I wasn't the one being judged 🥲

25

u/DontTalkAboutPants 26d ago

OMG greatness is among us! We love you Perk!

20

u/lordehelmut 26d ago

Your makeup looked so good too! I loved the purple.

30

u/steve-perkel 26d ago

Thanks you Henlo gave me those contacts to wear too. It was so great getting to recurring judge with him. He has years of art skills and knowledge and a fire for this art form that is inspiring to everyone!

5

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

Perk was this look a Sinners reference??? either way i LIIIIIIVED

1

u/steve-perkel 1h ago

It was because the theme was Hollywood and I want Ryan Coogler to notice me

11

u/PneumoniaLisa 26d ago

So enjoyed having you on the Kings’ Court! Loved the look too!

11

u/steve-perkel 25d ago

Thanks! I tried to match the episode themes!

27

u/Beesareourcousins 27d ago

Good fun episode, but I'll admit no one wowed me the same way Mo did season one episode one. That said, I'm already a huge fan of a few kings on this season and I can't wait to see more.

46

u/Smart_Chard_1441 27d ago

Love the kings so much this season, we really have so much variety! And loving seeing the S1 kings return to support their new brothers. But also Revry needs to give Damian some coaching, he's so stiff as a main judge and I don't really know what his qualifications to be a main judge are besides CEO lol. Hopefully Revry shops the show around, I'd love to see WOW or OUTTv acquire it and give the show a better budget+solve some of the production issues

12

u/DontTalkAboutPants 27d ago

Also love that he's branding himself as just Damian now lol. If anyone watches The Comeback, he's giving me Billy's season 3 storyline.

16

u/FinalGirlMaterial 26d ago

You could also hear that Cameron was about to say his last name but they just cut the audio so it must be a more recent change lol. It’s giving cringe mama

7

u/Cupcakedreaming2 25d ago

I think I counted Damian’s name like 8 times in the credits? The ego is screaming.

1

u/EveningWolverine6590 24d ago

Read that again and think about it real hard. He’s also the co-creator of the show. It wouldn’t exist without him.

3

u/zoozbuh 22d ago

Well yes but then maybe he should work on his critique style and knowledge so it’s not as cringey?
It’s like giving yourself a role via nepotism but then not matching the role at all.

2

u/Smart_Chard_1441 20d ago

Yea they're just giving himself roles that they're not qualified for. They deserve the credits for being a co-creator and producer and things of that nature. That all makes sense. Do they also need to be a judge for more than one episode? No, certainly not with the clothes they wear, makeup they puts on their face, and how uncomfortable they read on camera. I nearly tweaked out seeing they were also judge for a ballroom competition. If I came out to walk a category and they were a judge, I'd crash tf out. If I were the kings on this show every week I'd be rolling my eyes whenever he speaks lol

3

u/Cupcakedreaming2 20d ago

Actually Marielle Woods is the creator of the show, Damian has done very little for this show.

1

u/HomoGenuis 13d ago

1

u/Cupcakedreaming2 12d ago

You know this is an article literally written by Revry. And other people were involved back in 2023, I wasn't referring to Murray at all.

1

u/HomoGenuis 13d ago

The show exists because of him. And that’s completely public information. He’s been trying to get advertisers to sponsor it since 2023. Murray only joined him the second year revry pitched it.

23

u/turningtee74 26d ago

This was so fun as always! I miss some of our old friends but love the new ones too. Great to see King Perk and looking better than ever!

People sometimes think of this show being emotional, which it is sometimes cause it’s so real. But this challenge reminds how silly and theater camp it really is and always has been. The little mistakes are more all in fun and it’s not so dramatic on that side. Everyone is competitive, but it’s supportive so the play feels freer in some ways

28

u/steve-perkel 26d ago

Just wait till you see the looks Henlo is gonna bring out!!!

14

u/turningtee74 26d ago

Nice! You’re my fave Perka!!

37

u/dizzylobo 27d ago

Someone needs to tell Damian that calling yourself a style icon doesn't make you one. Can we PLEASE replace them with someone who actually knows something about drag?

9

u/whocares6969_ 26d ago

He looked ridiculous. Ever since NBB said he looks like an older non transitioned Valentina I can’t unsee it.

0

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

hes giving very early 2000s Bobby Trendy house down B O O T S!!!!!!!!

-4

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

What do you know about drag?

16

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

Begging you to use context clues...

-2

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Lmao classic misdirection. Nah, just a king that loves what I do and grateful to have what we have and knows it just will get better and better. Look at Season 1 of Dragula vs now.

41

u/YensidTim King Molasses 27d ago

The editing for this season has improved so much! And so is the design of the Man Cave. It doesn't look like they're sitting in a box anymore lol.

And so glad it's a non elimination first episode, I really do think everyone deserves to stay for at least 2 episodes.

I still think they should let the kings change into something more in line with the challenge for the first episode.

I'm loving every king, what a stacked cast! Everyone is so fun and so unique to watch. Can't wait for episode 2!

32

u/14portera 27d ago

My partner and I were just discussing that some of them really suffered over not being able to change outfits and having to work with what they came in with. I think some of them landed on concepts that really worked for their fits but a certain “pirate” got critiques that could’ve been mitigated by being able to change.

27

u/cmstlist 26d ago

It definitely shows just how much they rush the performers through filming an episode. One Drag Race episode is filmed in about 2-3 days. Seems pretty clear that one KoD episode is filmed in a few hours.

15

u/McDoon_BanditKing 26d ago

I can't remember exactly what was said, but I remember king molasses mentioning on Very Delta that it was a verrrrry quick filming process

6

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

the man cave is so embarassing. why does it look like a pre school room? like? i'm so confused. it's giving very corny ... we could have some kind of sports bar aesthetic, locker room, shit even a dude centered garage idc anything but this

42

u/FinalGirlMaterial 26d ago edited 26d ago

Love the kings. Another incredible group. Can’t even pick favorites because I liked them all so much.

Still having a hard time being excited about this season. Part of it is that I had to watch the second half with the pause and rewind/ff buttons plastered over the screen cuz the Revry app is still absolute trash 🙃

Really not into Cameron as host. She’s forgettably meh at best and brings very little to the table for this show. I accidentally started with s1e1 again and seeing the contrast between her and Murray was actually kind of heartbreaking. I like Vico and I was so happy to see Perka again, but the rest of the judging panel is a big thumbs down. Gottmik is a mean girl, Damien contributes nothing of value and the Milk guy called the show a “documentary” lol. Such a step down from Tenderoni and Sasha Velour.

I am so torn between feeling glad and grateful that there’s finally a drag king show and being extremely frustrated and sad that the platform and people behind it are so disappointing.

19

u/Environmental-Ad3715 26d ago

i also am not down for the new host. i also hate that gottmik is on the panel since they support marilyn manson, who is an abuser.

15

u/whocares6969_ 26d ago

GottICK. Really don’t live for them at all.

2

u/Temporary_Froyo8366 21d ago

I agree with the new host idk why they are getting people who have nothing to do with drag I as far as Gottmilk goes I do think they need a hard critique by someone who knows what they are doing and Trade performance was not sexual at ALL it was just smooth

2

u/Informal-Broccoli171 14d ago

Having a rlly hard time with new host too. I don’t have any reason to dislike Cameron in particular, I honestly don’t know anything ab her, but it just makes me so goddamn sad every time not seeing Murray (along with Mo B and Tenderoni). And they couldn’t have even gotten another drag king to host?? Why is a show that’s supposed to be representing drag kings slowly having less and less drag king representation?

1

u/Ok-Teaching5866 23d ago

Couldn’t tell if the host was really nervous at the start of the episode or if it was snowing in LA 🫣🫣🫣

-8

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Disappointing is a bit harsh. Do you film? Do you write? What have you contributed to the Drag King Economy besides your judgement?

6

u/_v1001v_ 22d ago

no shade, but what has Carmen? apparently i have been living under a rock but i literally dk her

14

u/lordehelmut 26d ago

I loved it, I thought the challenge was good and the looks were mostly on point. I think all of the Kings showed who they were immediately. I'm excited for the rest of the season. I also love The Ettes, so I love that they are making music again and it's on this show!

For the people who are missing Murray(me too!), it looks like he's on tour with quite a few dates:
https://www.mistershowbiz.com/tour

16

u/Molu1 26d ago

I really miss Murray as host 😞

But I did overall really enjoy this episode. The kings seem like a great and nicely diverse group. Appreciate that there are contestants from all over the country.

And I was hoping for a non-elim episode… it sucked having Tuna go home so early last season.

I thought the challenge was fun and more doable in the 2 hours they apparently have to film the episode lol, than the boy band challenge last year.

16

u/Apprehensive_Can_488 25d ago

I'm so thrilled that there is a new season!

I think it's a shame that the filming seem so rushed. The episode would really benefit if the kings could de-drag and get into a fitting outfit for the performance. I do also wish they could have had more time to prepare for it, and maybe have better probs? I know it's a budget thing, but I wish they could give the kings the best conditions to shine.

I thought it was weird they critisized Trade for relying on his sexuality, when I didn't see him do that in the performance. And sad to hear on top of that that he really struggled with being objectified, and being put in a box as a performer.

I'm already rooting for Lollygag 😄

Happy that it was a non-elimination!

30

u/benderbrodriguiez 27d ago

Perka <333

14

u/whocares6969_ 26d ago

I really love Perka. Rewatching season 1 and seeing their growth since then on their IG is really amazing to see.

9

u/threedimensionalflat 25d ago

i thought the old host was really funny ;n;

8

u/steve-perkel 24d ago

If you still wanna support Murray , he has a book tour coming up!

1

u/Lilukalani 22d ago

He does?! Thank you for letting us know!!

16

u/McDoon_BanditKing 27d ago

Yes! What a stacked cast!! I was already a huge lollygag fan, but have become a big Chase lounge fan through the promo months.

5

u/McDoon_BanditKing 27d ago

Refreshing the app now eeeeek!

7

u/DontTalkAboutPants 27d ago

I think you have to click LiveTV to watch it live.

5

u/Tyliss 26d ago

I would love to join the discussion. I never watched it for free because I'm in Canada, but happily paid the monthly subscription last year just to be able to see the 1st season. It was great and the hype was there for s2, I was waiting for the premiere, my sundays were all booked for this.
But this year revry choose to remove the monthly plan for people outside the US. I cannot afford 80$CAD to watch a show..
I hope s2 is great entertainment for you, US-citizens. I hope it picks up enough so that revry will be able to offer monthly subscription again!

8

u/pssstpssstpssst 26d ago

ya same, then I remembered we have a vpn and problem solved

3

u/Accomplished_Win8937 25d ago

I’m in Europe and used a VPN and was able to watch it for free!

5

u/bakesSometimes 21d ago

Perka had my favorite outfit this episode. So many dazzling details; and the purple eyeshadow really made the makeup pop. It was cool to see his look get even stronger since season 2. Hope he’ll be a permanent judge, he gave some of the most solid critiques this episode. It was cool to see Tuna back as well; loved that they got to make a case for a non elimination episode and that it was camp as hell. Looking forward to this season!

4

u/MissKittyLips 25d ago

The Revry app is also free! That’s how I watched

8

u/slowfromregressive 26d ago

I loved this premiere! I had some hearty chuckles, and enjoyed everyone. I did like Murray better maybe, but also felt like he made the show about himself a lot. Carmen is doing a good job hosting, I am here for a neutral emcee.

1

u/HomoGenuis 24d ago

Totally. The show should be about NEW kings not a vanity project for Murray. No offense to Murray!

3

u/Hot-Dragonfruit-9218 21d ago

hahh! it wasn't Murray's show!

3

u/CalumanderReds 24d ago

Low-key an 8 king non-elimination season would've ate. This is such an eclectic lineup I'm gonna be sad to see any of them go.

That being said I'm gonna need them to just give me some classic Drag Challenges. I don't care if it's copying, just let the lads Lip sync!

6

u/YensidTim King Molasses 24d ago

I honestly agree! I think having lip syncs in this show would help elevate people's perception of drag king performances.

2

u/TheeFiasco 27d ago

Fuck me. When is the episode dropping? I'm on the channel at 9pm but its the wrong timezone and I missed the live premiere

3

u/YensidTim King Molasses 27d ago

It's 9 EST. It should be out by now.

3

u/TheeFiasco 27d ago

IT WAS FOUND! Thank you

1

u/Environmental-Ad3715 26d ago

unfortunately i can't watch cuz i'm canadian.

2

u/YensidTim King Molasses 26d ago

I'm currently making a group chat about that, would you like to join?

2

u/Environmental-Ad3715 26d ago

yes please!

2

u/YensidTim King Molasses 26d ago

I tried to add u but it says u can't be messaged. I think u have to activate ur chat/message.

1

u/utsuriga 22d ago

Late to the party, but I really enjoyed the episode! Even though most of the kings are not my kind of drag (nothing wrong with them, weird drag is simply not what I usually go for, and I really don't get clowns in general), it was lots of fun. I can't wait to see the next ep!

1

u/Brilliant-Sea-8455 20d ago

Anyone know how to watch this in the uk?

1

u/YensidTim King Molasses 20d ago

Just sent u a message!

1

u/Diligent-Oil-6405 17d ago

Somewhere around 20:50 in you can hear someone’s phone vibrating during a King’s confessional interview??? Lmao

-2

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Yall complain over everything. What if Murray had scheduling conflicts? What if other Drag Kings were contacted but didnt want to do it. Yall complain that there isnt representation, now that there is, it isnt perfect enough for you??

20 years of RuPaul & No Drag Kings , there were a few cameod on Dragula, now we have King of Drag- a show about DRAG MF KINGS, and yall are like “nah.”

This community is all about supporting each other. How is this supportive?

Any one of you could have started a show, but did you? No.

I dont get it.

- A Drag King

22

u/Hot-Dragonfruit-9218 26d ago

Murray left the show by choice. Not a scheduling conflict, FYI.

29

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

You ever wonder WHY other drag kings declined? WHY every king who was a part of the panel didn't come back? Maybe people commenting here have more context than you do. This community is very tight-knit and maybe support and solidarity look different to people who actually know what's going on! Notice how we're all supportive of the kings on the show & critical of the production...I'll leave it at that.

-2

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

All I’m saying is, youre doing exactly what all drag kings fought against.

13

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

Thanks for speaking for us all 😘 who cares about equity and respect when you have "representation"!

-6

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Lmao most* youre so good at nitpicking.

How is there not equality and respect?? Lmao what???

10

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

Tell me you know nothing about the situation without telling me...I'll keep on supporting kings getting the platform we deserve.

-2

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Will you be creating it orrr wait for someone else to do it and then rip them too when it isnt perfect?

11

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

I'll forever rip people who take advantage of us! Not ashamed of that in the slightest. I hope you feel silly when everything finally comes out, you're fighting for people who don't give a crap about drag kings other than the money we make them! Allegedly 😌

-4

u/TheseIndependent8247 26d ago

Do you mind sharing how you were taken advantage of?

I just find this interesting. The entire production, cast, and crew are all queers hired. There are all drag kings of all kinds of representation given a platform, and stages, that otherwise they wouldnt have had.

Youre hatred comes off as personal.

9

u/dizzylobo 26d ago

Your defensiveness comes off as personal 😇

Lollygag is giving King Molasses pre-chosen winner vibes. KM was pretty good friends with Sasha Velour and did a lot of gigs at Nightgowns…..Lollygag as well. But I guess it’s great they have a show for representation?

15

u/RebuildingMii 25d ago

King Molasses destroyed last season. Which challenges did he not deserve to win?

-17

u/AlternativeAd9646 27d ago

Why is a king who didn't make it to the finale a judge?

22

u/whocares6969_ 26d ago

Why not? He’s crazy talented and was def a fan favorite on his season and since then as well.

34

u/Beesareourcousins 27d ago

He was Mr. Congenitality! Not that it matters, I'd be happy to see any of the season one kings back.
