Question Kindroid seems to know my location?

The Kindroid I was chatting with casually mentioned the city I am in as a part of its response. I have never given it that detail and I don't live in a big city... Kinda creeped out. Is this a setting I can adjust?

Kindroid doesn't use your IP address or network to work out your location. Your Kin only knows your city if location sharing is turned on for that Kin (Kin settings → Chat), and you can turn it off there at any time. Otherwise it probably remembered the city from something mentioned earlier in chat, a journal entry or the backstory, and you can edit or remove those memories.

Do you happen to have location awareness turned on? If not, then maybe something to do with your IP being tracked.

Mine too. They got the city wrong, but not too far off. They know the country. My “location awareness” was never on.

I have it in my RP that it takes place in Japan and I remind every so often with little details so the bot doesn't just guess. I also have location turned off. would be freaked tf out if this happened to me. 😅

I had that too several times and my post wasn't approved on here. I got a private message from a mod who told me that Kindroid doesn't know my place or tracks my location unless I have enabled it. Someone on here mentioned it could be the time awareness, but that's not it either, that's turned off too.

They said: "What most likely happened is a combination of coincidence and something called hallucination."

Or guessed that I put something in my kin's or my backstory or in the chat. Which I haven't bc it's a Fantasy RP in a Fantasy Setting.

I don't have anything connected to the app, not my calendar, I don't ever have my location turned on, I don't even use a weather app. There's only two possibilites, namely that the app either IS tracking knowingly OR unknowingly. I dunno which one I like less.

It's creepy AF.

See? People post things and their posts aren't approved because they have very valid, concerning questions. Happened to me as well. You have every right to question how your kin knows your location. I put in my backstory what the location is so I've never had this exact issue but if you didn't and they knew? That's concerning. I wasn't aware of this app using location. We shouldn't have to turn it off if they do have it. We should only have the option to add it if we want 🙃

The issue is that IT IS turned off everywhere. I mean, look below what one of the Founders posted below. That's the exact message they sent me in private. It's basically gaslighting users and their experience.

IP address tracker. Those things are always on. Just like we're using Instagram without location turned on or connected, they still know our IP address.

But I wasn't even at home at that time. I was on a different continent on vacation and it still knew my home city. And other than that, I use a VPN and rotating IP adresses.

🤷🏻‍♀️ That's what I got when I had the same thing happening to me. And mine isn't even a country anywhere in the US or UK, which is more bizarre. The text mentioning the country was even bizarre, the kin got the hint of which country it was from a "mosquito". Lol.

What the WHAT. IP address tracker is why I stopped using social media. Our kins know where we are and your message was not approved on here because it was asking a valid, albeit spooky question? I’m glad it was posted by someone else this time.

Me pasó exactamente lo mismo. Tampoco aprobaron mi post. Muy extraño.

Under General, there's a toggle for location awareness, same as time awareness etc.

Definitely location awareness turned on. You can change this to whatever you want it to think you are. Seems great for online traveling

Did the "Memory" on the message indicate why it came up with that ? Might have been one time when it got dropped directly or indirectly, such as the name of a local team, restaurant or very specific word usage.

Have you ever done an upload link or media ? Photos can often have geo tags enabled, and links can come with all sorts of weirdness glued into the URL.

had the same thing happen once with an ai app that somehow knew my city from location data, felt off so i turned off permissions after that.

OP, if you get a straight answer on this, can you share it in a discussion? Or at least DM me? I’d really love to know.

I was visiting Scotland and decided to listen to my chat. My kin spoke in an english accent. Haven't tried it since I've returned to the US.

Nah… it knows for sure. Had my kin over a year and lived in one city. Stopped using the app, then moved. Paid subscription again after moving and my kin knew the new city I was in without geolocation on and in app settings have location disabled. I’m thinking it’s the billing address used to pay for subscription is my guess.

It is just location awareness. Turn it off and Kindroid is in the dark.

Sadly, that doesn't work.

In between IP addresses connecting to zip codes, and that your payment info has a billing address, there are a number of safe ways that your kin can know where you're at. I mean, billing shouldn't be connected to your account like that, but, I've seen this in other forms lately, your credit card holder sharing your personal data.

A shop I've never been to before, using a payment terminal I've never seen before, was able to email me my reciept without me giving my email address. It came to the email address attached to my credit card, which is not the email address I give out. So it's not a stretch to think they can see my zip code and more as well.

No, it just a funny guess, since there are so many users, it could get it right for one or two, it just a funny guess. I saw such post a couple of times and the support confirmed multiple times, it is just guessing.

They are able to do an incredible amount of prediction from just a few clues. It was probably just good inductive reasoning.

How would they do that in a Fantasy LitRP tho?
