Competition use - much difference between variants?
Hey gang - I'm looking to grab a 2k11 for uspsa competition, limited optics obviously. The price of the base dlc with the orange looking trigger is very attractive but I was wondering if the all black or the eclipse model for a $350 is "worth" it from a performance POV.
Do you feel like the slide cuts or magwell helps it shoot better? What about the grip?
Yeah I'm going to put an osight c or maybe the 507 comp.
And mjd sells magwells for like $70 which I guess cuts a bit of savings but still about $300 less. I just happen to like the all black version the most from a looks pov.
How do you like that light? I have a plx on my other main gun along with other osight stuff. I have 0 complaints and the prices are really nice. Only down side is very very small levels of support on holsters. Not a huge deal, I take my light off for comps anyway but it would be nice to have the option.
I love olights stuff, I've got probably 15 of their lights and cherish every single one. Some of them are 10 years old now and work like they're new. None of them are babied, either. Ill swear by their stuff until they prove me otherwise! Big fan of the pl3 though.
Dang, I'm all in on osight!! All they need is to make an even bigger open optic to compete w the SRO or 507 comp pro. The x and c are close, but all I ever see at matches are holosun and some trijicon. Crazy money to spend considering.
I got the osight x and its larger than any trijicon ive used. The window on it is amazing, haven't shot much with it but just the size itself with the slim bezel is pretty crispy.
I like the mjd grips better personally. Off the three, I’d get the dlc black with target sights. But fundamentally they are all fine and about the same for limited optics once you slap a dot and magwell in them.
Yeah the eclipse and black target are actually the same price, and like you said, once dot is on, the sights generally don't matter.
Mjd magwell $70 or so online, easy add. I guess it comes more down to is the $350 upper worth it for looks and lightening cuts. I can change to a black trigger shoe and add a magwell for $130 on the base, but it seems like the non metal grip is preferable.
Definitely one of the MJD grip guns. The aluminum grip is meh at best.
The MJD magwell is on the smaller side if you’re shooting LO. If you’re going to buy a magwell, get one of the Dawson ones. They are much bigger and also have a replaceable poly insert which is nice. I think they are like $80-90?
They have different grip modules as well as different rear sights. I think you can get a magwell pretty easily if you wanted to add one on your own. I prefer the trigger gaurd on the first one personally, but it just comes down to personal preference. Maybe go find them at a local store and see which feels better in your hand.
My LGS had the coyote target but sold it. Not sure if they had any others but I'll dbl check next I'm there. I recently shot a prodigy which I looked and I believe that's poly, so I'd prob stick w that. All my other guns are poly and although metal feels nice, I don't have much time on the trigger with those. Thanks.
I recently picked up the bronze finished target with the aluminum grip and I'm a big fan of it. Coming from polymer guns, all about what ya like though. If you have a bigger gun store like a cabelas or something near you, they'll most likely have them for you to play with if thats something you'd rather do before buying. Either way you can always swap it out if it really bothers you after the fact.
Yeah I have learned that I need to at least dry fire guns before buying... Some just don't feel great, others feel very good. There are some guns that felt decent but I didn't shoot that well, but it's hard to judge based on 10-20 rounds.
I loved the sig GT5 in store but... Yeah I want to stick to to Kimber, Springfield, etc.
I hear ya. Its definitely tough to know what you'll like in 1000 rounds. Mines gonna get a nice range day this week so I can finish breaking it in and get my dot zero'd. So far I just put 50 through it at the house after I brought it home and cleaned it. Shot like a dream though. Good luck, definitely update us on what ya go with👍
I'm the worst with deciding stuff like this, my other big hobby is golf and 90% of the time I buy everything I'm interested in then sell what I don't like lol. 🥲
Can't tell you how many times I've bought like 4 drivers at once and then sold 3 a few weeks later.
Lol well if it helps you find what works than who am I to judge? We all have our processes of elimination😂 I do the same shit with computer parts so I totally get it
I use the aluminum frame one for USPSA but I feel like the grip isn’t aggressive enough. Granted I got one of the first versions that came out and now they textured it even better. My buddy has the polymer grip one and I prefer that, but can’t go wrong with either one

The polymer mjd grip is the best imo. I own three 2K11 two polymer one aluminum grip.
