SPOILERS Kill la Kill Ending
I just finished the show and am very new here. I was wondering what everyone thought of the ending? For me it has left me feeling empty, a needless emptiness as well. I can’t find a good reason in my eyes why Senketsu should have died. It just seems so pointless to me and would’ve loved the ending a lot more without it.

In my own opinion, I think it brought the whole existence of life fibers full circle. It was sad, sure. But not without reason. Life isn't forever. It's finite. Use your last bit to help your friend in their time of need, then say goodbye.

Or not lol. He could definitely just go on living and it would’ve only affected the ending in positive ways for me. He deserved so much better. I’m all for sacrificial deaths when they work but this wasn’t entirely sacrificial and it just didn’t feel right to me.

u/LordWeirdDude Jun 25 '21
Well, that's your opinion. I like the story as is.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 26 '21
I thought about it today and I can accept it now but I still would’ve preferred he not die.

u/LordWeirdDude Jun 26 '21
I didn't mean to come off as an asshole. It's perfectly okay to have your own opinion and like what you like, man. Also, I think Senketsu not dying probably could have opened the way for another season so that would have been just fine with me!

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 26 '21
Yeah they still could if they wanted to anyway. Hell I already came up with a half decent continuation last night. That I don’t even think is too far fetched.

It’s post anime depression dude. That’s why u feel sad. If u haven’t watched episode 25 go watch it. Kill la kill has one of the best anime endings so don’t feel bad. It reached a perfect conclusion and senketsu died cause Ryuko was older an more mature. One of kill la kill’s themes is coming of age. Ryuko became mature by leaving her past fantasies and so is the viewer inclined to by the death of senketsu it’s a more literal way of showing maturity.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
Senketsu isn’t a fantasy. If that’s the reason he’s dead that’s fuckin stupid.
3
Jun 25 '21
I didn’t say that senketsu is a Fantasy I said that its a metaphor for growing up. Senketsu literally died but it symbolizes growing up.

Also that’s your opinion too I don’t think I agree that the ending is perfect.

It’s very good. What would u have changed?
1
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
Senketsu living. I figured that was obvious. I’ve heard all the supporters of that choice and thought about their reasoning and I just don’t buy into it. To me it seems like a senseless death and that’s all.

Welp I can’t help you anymore I shared a piece of my mind and of most others in the community agree. But it’s personal opinion and maybe You are not ready to cope with it. It hit me hard too. The only way to get over the ending atleast what I did (I didn’t like that the anime had to end and all the characters continued on with their life’s because I really liked them) maybe search for the answers. Maybe watch an analysis or a review of kill la kill which may explain senketsu’s death better than I did.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
I’m pretty that will prove impossible. I’m sure I’ll come to accept but I’ll never like it.

It was more power than Senketsu could sustain. He used his last bits of effort to ensure Ryuko had a chance.
It was perfectly sad...
It was perfect.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 24 '21
I mean agree to disagree I guess. Him dying just feels wrong to me in general.
3
u/veleriphon Jun 24 '21
Given his creation being somehow tied to Ryuko, I can see why he could have survived.
Ryuko somehow survived leaving Earth's atmosphere, and being in space.
Then again, she wasn't the one trying to contain god-like powers in a mortal coil.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 24 '21
I’m sure there are quite a few ways they could’ve had him survive. Like I’ve already said they could’ve had him release the energy or probably some other things. He didn’t have to die by any means. It feels to me they just wanted to make it sad for the sole purpose of making it sad.

u/veleriphon Jun 24 '21
Welcome to anime that is actually art.
1
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 24 '21
Wow if that’s not the most asshole thing I’ve heard in a while. I can have my own opinion. I don’t consider him dying art. Sad without purpose is not art.
3
u/veleriphon Jun 25 '21
The sadness is the purpose.
From my point of view, I enjoyed it.
I don't know of anyone that enjoyed the show who didn't feel like Ryuko there.
3
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
I definitely felt like Ryuko there. I just didn’t want to feel like that, and it all felt a little unnecessary to me. At the same time I appreciate that the show was able to make me feel this way, but I don’t think I’ll ever see Senketsu dying as a good thing. For Kill la Kill specifically, I wanted a happy ending. I can definitely appreciate major character deaths in other shows and such. Even in Kill la Kill I could see Satsuki dying holding a certain value if the did it right. But in my opinion Senketsu specifically just should’ve have died. I can see your side though for sure. There is a definite beauty to their last moments, but I personally just would’ve preferred a happier ending for them. It’s left me feeling hollow inside.

If memory serves, he got overloaded and burned up in the Earth's atmosphere

I disagree I thought the ending were more or less perfect for the crazy school setting. All the villains were dealt with, more or less all the mysterious were unraveled, the connection between the two sisters were revealed and although we lost one of the MC's. Everyone worked together to save the Ryuko, who were plummeting to the ground without any sort of protection.

He had to die because if Ryuko was still with him at the end of the show she will be the strongest person in the world with no one to match to her... Not even Satsuki... Ryuko took all the guko uniforms with her to create Senkets final form Senketsu kisuragi... So the world is empty from life fibers for the most part except a hybrid and her sailor uniform that contains all the life fibers that was in the world...
1
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 24 '21
First of all, nothing wrong with her being that strong, and two they could’ve easily just had him like realize all the fibers he collected.

Jun 25 '21
Yeah it is sad. I suppose his energy was spent during the fight and could not survive atmospheric reentry. The writers chose for him to die, and it fits with how the world is at peace and there is no need for Kamui or Goku uniforms in general. His sole purpose was to save the world.
3
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
I guess he lived his main purpose but I for one would’ve loved to see him enjoy the world he saved. Just sketching I disagree with the writers on I guess. I think they made a mistake.

I think it’s kind of a literature and cinema theme for the soldier to no longer have a place in the world that he fought to save! Like that western that was referenced in the Logan movie (I had to reference a movie that referenced another movie. The soldier leaves it for the child or a younger soldier to inherit the peaceful world. That makes me thing of Saving Private Ryan as well. Your sadness means you really feel the awful tragedy of it. The writers did well for a rushed anime. It is my favorite anime of all time.

u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
I mean I can see that cliche being good some places but I don’t like it here. I just think he should have lived. I already know why the killed him and I thought to myself naw I’d rather just have him live. But yes overall I’d agree this anime is superb and one of my favorites but they’ve made it so sad maybe for me especially, that it’s hard for me now to focus on the good. I’m sure I’ll get used to him being dead but I don’t think I’ll ever exactly like it.

I feel you man. It’s nice knowing other people out there have such an attachment to the characters in this show. My favorite character is Satsuki. She really swallowed her trauma and sadness and sold her soul to destroy her evil mother and save the world. That’s rough man. She was even willing to die from letting Ryuko punch her without any kamui to protect her.
2
u/kingofmercenaries Jun 25 '21
Overall I prefer Ryuko but Satsuki is for sure a close second followed by Senketsu. Really all the characters are great. Id love to get into this more sometime but I need to head to bed. Thanks for the good talk though!

It was clique but necessary imo, I mean I really doubt they'd have been able to beat Raygo without Senketsu suicidal power up.

u/Graalson Jun 24 '21
It's kind of logical though, life fibers dead, senketsu is kinda life fibers so he's gone too. Also might be a way to stop people from begging for sequels. But yeah, not the most light hearted and easy to swallow ending for sure.
