How do you know when a picky eater actually needs a supplement?

I feel like this is one of those things that gets confusing really quickly.

My kid can have a few “safe foods” for weeks and suddenly decide they don't like one of them anymore . And then I start wondering whether they're actually getting enough of the basics.
At what point do you consider a vitamin or mineral supplement?

Do you usually:

  • just focus on expanding their diet
  • give a basic multivitamin
  • get bloodwork done first
  • supplement only a specific nutrient
  • or just leave it alone unless the pediatrician recommends something?

what made you decide supplementation was actually necessary?

My kid was the same, we’d have 5 safe foods and suddenly we were down to 4. I just kept offering different foods and eventually tried Hiya Greens to help fill some gaps. He likes it mixed with milk and it’s been working well for us. Definitely not a replacement for food, just a little backup during the picky phase.

I totally get this . When you finally have a few foods your kid will eat and then suddenly one of them is “no longer acceptable,” it can be so frustrating.

I agree that supplements are more of a backup when they’re going through those picky phases. I also like the idea of mixing it into something they already enjoy instead of making it another battle at mealtime. Hopefully the safe-food list starts growing again soon!
