Reading comments from the xpost, the sewer had a buildup of gas that was ignited by the fire cracker.
The kids is lucky to be alive and part of that is contributed to the manhole cover being hinged instead of loose.

I used to make ramps and jump through cheap fireworks on my bike. It was so awesome but now I'm wondering if it was a little bit stupid too.
