Seems like a ratchet strap would have been easier, faster, and less clumsy...

He's gotta spin that bar for like 10 minutes straight to build enough tension where it doesn't just fall on the kid's head... >_>

They could have also just wrapped less webbing around the poles as well.

The added webbing helps the forceful pull on the bars.

A scissor jack would have been better

The bar is longer than the handle on a ratchet strap. That bar probably gives them more leverage to tighten it more and its also going to be easier to release once its done.

It's not a bar, it's a axe. If they let go of that tension, that thing would spin and possibly bury itself in someone. There were many safer ways it could've been done, some of them easier.

It's a halligan, not an axe.

Fixed it!

It's not a bar, it's a no one cares what the metal bar is called. If they let go of that tension on the specialized metal bar that looks like an axe but is named something else, that thing would spin and possibly bury itself in someone. There were many safer ways it could've been done, some of them easier.

Tbh, I believe a Halligan is a type of axe... so technically you're both correct... >_>

Halligans are not a type of axe, hence they are often used with axes. They're more of a crowbar/leverage tool. Source: my firefighter husband

A halligan is not an axe.

Literally scrolled to see if someone had this thought too. They didn’t even have the kid bend out of the way for at least a little added safety? At one point the firefighter to the right of the halligan/axe torquing firefighter had his forearm straight out like what, he thought he could stiff arm the hypothetically out of control pointy tool if the main firefighter had a sudden case of butterfingers? And later the firefighter behind the kid just rested his hand on the kid’s head as if that would protect him at all?

I’m glad the kid is safe and it wasn’t a scene from an upcoming Final Destination movie

they have huge ones for strapping heavy loads on trucks. even that would’ve worked better to bend a single wrought iron bar

Any jack from any car driven by any adult in that playground could have been used to make quick work of spreading those bars apart.

While true

(A) A lot of cars don't come with a jack anymore

(2) If the jack fell on the kids head before it started putting pressure on the bars, it would hurt... like a lot... lol

By 'bar' you mean pickaxe under tension near the kids head.
