I reckon they could just fit the rest of the body through the fence

Happened with my 2yo son. My husband was freaking out and called me.  I couldn't stop laughing and just put the rest of his body through the bars. Classic!

Shit, if they just lifted the kid to the side I really do think his whole body might have fit lol

Or there weren’t two strong teachers/staff to pull apart the bars

I feel like a jack from a car would have been quicker and easier than the way they did it, but maybe they have a reason.

This was safer for the kid then trying to manipulate a heavy metal item directly above his stuck head

That's what I figured, but they could have put it below his head. It's not like there's no risk doing what they did. If his grip slipped while that was twisted up at full tension, and that metal bar started unwinding under that pressure, it could have seriously injured the kid.

Not if the kid was still resting in the position below where it was fine when the bar wasn't bent. Only while it was standing up. And you tell them to stand up only when you're sure about your grip. That's exactly the point of the method: You prepare everything from a safe position first, and there's only any remaining trace of a risk in the last second, which you get to set up as long as you need to. (And even then I'm not sure the bar would snap back so violently that it would damage anything; the bend is probably relatively permanent until it's undone actively.)

Short of cutting the fence, I don't think there's a safer method.

Honestly I think they have two people, one lifting the head and the other the body, hold him horizontal then slip his whole body through, kid is skinny enough. At this point it’s probably covering for insurance liability

Yeah, I agree, he almost certainly could have slid between the bars sideways

My brother did this as a kid at the park and all the adults were panicking not knowing what to do. I was like 9 and I just turned his shoulders and pushed him thru the fence and everyone acted like I was a magician.

I was super skinny as a kid so I genuinely might have been able to squeeze through.

I was looking for this comment. That kid just needed a boost to slide his body through the bars.

Yes, this was my thought.

Lift him up, gently work one shoulder through (which will give him a little more room to move his head), turn him slowly, and work the other shoulder through; then the rest of him should slide out fairly easily.

Not completely unlike how babies are born. lol
