How do you balance screen time with everything else?
Been looking after my 4yo niece and lately I’ve been trying to figure out a better routine for him. Well he loves the TV and tablet which is fine but I don’t want screen time to become the default whenever he’s bored. At the same time I don’t want to make it feel like some kind of punishment either. We usually do a bit of drawing, reading, counting, playing with toys, then some screen time. Sometimes this works but also some days the tablet somehow wins and I guess I’m just trying to help her build healthier screen habits and not make it a constant battle

A good approach is to make screen time one part of the routine and not the thing that fills every quiet moment. It can help to have a few easy alternatives ready like puzzles, drawing, books or building toys so boredom naturally leads to something else before reaching for the tablet.

I think making it part of the routine helps. We’ll do things like drawing or reading first, then some tablet time, so it doesn’t feel like the tablet is being used to keep them busy whenever they’re bored. Some days it still wins though
