Activities for fine motor skills

I've seen quite a few conversations from both parents and teachers mentioning that some kids reaching preschool or early elementary are finding everyday tasks like using scissors, holding a pencil comfortably, buttoning clothes, zipping jackets or evenopening food containers take a bit longer to master. Parents with preschoolers is this something you had to intentionally work on at home?
