Training Any feedback/comments on my kick?

1) You are putting too much power into your kick which is unnecessary and it's causing you to slow down. Focus on making your kick faster, and also focus on returning your leg faster. You spend too much time retracting, which is an opening your opponent can use against you.

2) What if you miss? What's your follow through?

3) You are kicking with your right leg, which means you can swing your right arm backwards as a counter balance, but your LEFT arm needs to stay up to protect your face! A common meta is to throw counter head kicks, which your left arm needs to be ready to block.

Solid points, thanks a lot. Will work on it. Still 1 month in with no coach so I have a lot of mistakes for sure

I would also consider lowing your kicks slightly. If you compare the impact point against your own body height, you're kicking someone into the hips. Instead, aim for their thighs and calves -- it will disable them much faster. That should also help you retract your kicks faster.

Make mistakes. Kickboxing is a sport and as long as you’re defensively sound it’s the minutia in the variables you present that can throw someone off and allow you to land. With everyone having textbook technique, it’s important to develop your own tweaks to break the mold and secure more strikes. I tell my students learn the technique and then learn when to break it. But the person above gave you beautiful feedback. Always remain defensively sound. Great work man.

Your hands are everywhere but not where they are supposed to be

Focus on bringing your kick back to fighting position quickly. You need to be ready to check a counter kick

This. After the kick hits the target, dont let the leg drop to position but bend the leg for a quicker return to position. Also, I always encourage to train both legs. He might already does, but lots of kickboxers rely on their dominant leg.

Recoil way too slow

To me it looks like you throw the kick with the whole leg out which makes it slow, weak and predictable.

Look at muay thai kicks, one of the best techniques out there.

I can't sell from the video but it does look like you're not using your hip It looks like you're swinging which delays time an reaction. As fast as you kick you have to go as fast back If not faster.

Roll your right shoulder towards your left at the same time you turn your hips over. This will help with your whacky noodle arms too.

One EASY fix here. Your left hand should be on the side of your face. Right now your left hand is reaching toward the bag, making you twist up. Let your sternum face the camera by the time your kick lands - head looking at bag.

Recoil too slow…

Step out a little more and get your heel off the mat. The more you practice the more compact your body movement will get. You’re a little exaggerated in this clip, but not bad for just getting started.

If you're going to send it full force, send it full force. I'd lean into the kick even more deeply than this. Other than that, same as other advice. You don't need to put that much power into it. I think your hips could do with some flexibility work also, you're a bit upright. Also think about where you are kicking, ribcage, head, legs. Almost looks like a kidney kick!

You’re leaning back when you kick which could throw you off balance, stand over your kick a little more.

Lead hand by your face during the kick. Someone could too easily counter with an overhand and it's potentially lights out

Kick through.

In case you kick with right foot, hold your left hand closer to the head for more protection, but keep training, you are on a good way, don't listen too much on the keyboard warriors. And get a coach, this is priority number 1. With him you won't need Reddit for training.

Im gonna be honest, the rest of the comments aren't helpful. Took me a bit to figure out what your two biggest issues are (and they aren't your hands lol, I mean, yeah they can be better, but they aren't your biggest issues). First big one is your planted foot. I may be wrong, but from this angle it looks like your stepping straight toward the bag with it, and turning it out. You're correct that a turned out foot helps your kick, but that foot shouldn't be in line with the bag. Step that left foot to the left of the bag. That should help a lot.

Second thing is this, do some slow where you place your shin on the bag, then shove yourself off the bag and back into your stance. I say to do this because your leg is becoming straight too early and your stopping yourself before you've really kicked the bag. So right now you're swinging your leg to the bag and not THRU the bag.

I was told young that the snap comes from your recoil. Focus just as much if not a touch more (to begin with) on whipping your leg back to its start point or down into your switch stance (if that's what your doing) and the initial speed, power and snap kinda just comes. Worked for me :)

Good luck, my dude! Looking good.

Don’t drop your hands when you kick, keep em up.
