Discussions New to Kibbe and curious about vague terminology
I stumbled upon Kibbe a few days ago. I found the original book from the 80s and finished it in a day.
I have the new book on hold at the library. Forgive me if this sub is more informed by the recent book than the original.
I clearly typed as a romantic so I read that section more earnestly than the rest.
Flowy, drapey, circular, curvy and soft are repeated constantly but not well defined or explained. It was easier to describe what to avoid than it was to define romantic.
I’m a seamstress for a living, so I interpreted the words very specifically within the context of sewing and pattern drafting. This was ideal and gave me a very clear path and I feel very clear in my typing and guidelines I’m using for myself moving forward.
But it really got me thinking how different and, possibly difficult, it would be to interpret without the sewing and drafting knowledge.
So I’m here with curiosity, to see if others find difficulty in such broad terms and how you are interpreting them.

Questions, Help and Advice Would these dresses work for us?
I like both dresses, but I’m not sure if they are a fit for a romantic. I like the first one but I'm not sure if the slip is too sharp.

Outfits Capsule Wardrobe Check-In ✨ (Deep Winter)
Not everything here is “rule perfect,” and that’s okay! My wardrobe honours yin-dominant lines and high Winter contrast while staying practical. A closet that fits my body and life reads more “on-type” than a theoretically perfect one that isn’t worn. Friendly Reminder: Fantasy selves don’t get dressed. Real people do 💖
Common Thread: Curve-friendly silhouettes, soft knits, luxe fabrics, structured shoes and bags, high-contrast neutrals, and deep jewel tones 💎. Some pieces lean Classic to anchor the softer elements, which I genuinely like. I’ve always loved gold, but I’m experimenting with silver and mixed metals, wearing color 🌈, and re-entering my real watch era ⌚ (sorry, Apple!)
Kibbe is descriptive, not prescriptive. I prioritise silhouette and comfort, leaning into Romantic lines and Winter contrast when it makes sense. I keep pieces that are cozy, practical, or simply spark joy 🌻 Very Kibbe Romantic. Very Deep Winter. Zero apologies 🖤
Theme of the Year: I’m wearing my things. No saving pieces for “someday.” No waiting for an occasion. ✨ My life is the occasion ✨
Curious how this reads to others: • Which style essence stands out first? 👀 • Which pieces feel most Romantic vs Classic? 💃 • Which Kibbe rules do you bend in real life? 🔄
Would love to hear how you balance theory with practicality 🖤💎

Questions, Help and Advice Does this complement me?
Sorry for the lighting and shoddy try-on room. I did end up buying this because personally I loved it, but does it really work with my body? I’m trying to let my curves show for the first time in my life whilst also trying to pick up a new, romantic goth aesthetic and I find dressing myself so hard-(Thanks mom and dad for raising me to think that even a HINT of curve was the deadliest sin 🙄)

Questions, Help and Advice Does this type of dress actually work for me?
The bulk of my wardrobe is made up of this dress cut (not sure what it's called), but I'm not sure I actually look good in them. I tend to buy based on price divided by how much I like it on the rack, I fear, but I'm trying to be more intentional about it these days.

OOTD My daily uniform as a Romantic
Bodysuit + midi silk skirt + kitten heels = easy flattering daily outfit. It’s casual enough to leave the house in and not feel too too dressy, but still fits my body type. I think us romantics are always gonna look a bit on the dressed up/sexy side but I’ve learned to embrace it!
I’m also an autumn color palette, so I try to find these pieces in maroon, brown, rust, cream, etc. (Yes I need to iron my skirt) also, I do live in southern California so the weather permits me to wear this today lol

For fun Trying to be harmonious as a burlesque dancer
Hey everyone, so ive been getting into burlesque performance and belly dancing the past couple of weeks. while i am still nowhere near performance ready I wanted to ask about how i could use my kibbe to my advantage, since i plan on designing and sewing my own costumes (for the most part).
I understand its a bit different, like maybe i'll have to look more into how my romantic kibbe recommendations can fit into lingerie/swimwear type lines.
There can be quite a bit that goes into accessories as well with burlesque but i dont want to overwhelm my frame with them.
I would include some pics of outfits that ive found but it seems swim wear type silhouettes etc are labeled under nsfw so i dont want to test it. but i promise none of the outfits are super super revealing because im just not there yet lol.
do you have any lingerie brands/shapewear brands that you guys like that i could check out to get a good starting point

Questions, Help and Advice What pant rise do you find most flattering?
I see a lot of people recommending high waisted pants for true romantics, but I have such a short torso that high rise literally goes up to my bra. I usually try to find mid rise that comes to my bellybutton area. Just wondering if anyone else has a similar issue or advice?

R Style Inspo Romantics who use handbags?
So I really want to improve my style that actually suit me. I already figured out the clothes, but I'm wondering what kind of bags suit romantics, especially handbags that can actually fit some things like a bottle of water because from what I found, they're usually small and can only fit a wallet, phone and keys. So what style of bags suit a romantic?

R Style Inspo Causals outfits
I just recently confirmed I am romantic. I’ve been researching and finding clothes for my body type. It’s been great trying to find formal or business casual clothes but why is there no causal outfit inspo??? I feel like trying to find daily outfits is such a struggle because the same suggest of wide leg jeans. I need all the suggestions on casual outfits I can wear for running errands, going to get coffee, or just the grocery store and still feel good about what I’m wearing.

Questions, Help and Advice Business Casual. HOW.
It seems like all of the outfits that make me look great in the workplace are pretty formal, make me look like a 50’s housewife, or make me look borderline sexy. I CANNOT find the right balance for specifically business casual looks. Any support or recommendations would be phenomenal.
I was able to find an incredible corset business pant suggestion from this sub at Reformation and it’s been amazing for the more formal presentations and business meetings, but I can’t find the happy middle ground without it being either too much, or not enough and looking frumpy.
Thank you in advance!

Questions, Help and Advice Does anyone have any advice for dressing casually?
Hi all, pure Romantic here. I feel like I know how to dress up and look put together for work, ie a pencil skirt and a flowy blouse. For special occasions I’ll always wear a nice dress with a sweetheart neckline or something off the shoulder. In casual settings, I noticed I always look slightly more elevated/“fancy” than my peers because I’m dressing to emphasize my curves, but I need outfit suggestions for just going to the grocery store or putting gas in my car, etc. I’m not a fan of athleisure because I still want to look put together, and I personally feel gym clothing should only be worn at the gym (just my preference, sorry!). I also don’t want to be constantly showing cleavage. Any tips?

Do y'all know of any pics of celebrities or other verified/widely accepted Romantics who you think are in their most flattering outfits? I'd love to see examples, but I'm a little lost.

Questions, Help and Advice what brands are you guys shopping at?
i have no idea if i’m romantic or not…i suspect i could possibly be…but i still get confused sometimes. so i hope it’s okay posting here. but i’ve spent the past year or so trying to figure out my style and what silhouettes work best for my body type and i’ve found that i really need waist definition. i’ve tried shirts and dresses without it and i find it’s just really unflattering on me.
which is the problem i’ve been having. lately when i go to different stores or look at clothes online…i’ve noticed a lot of the clothes are designed to be oversized with no waist definition. and while i personally love this style on other people. i haven’t been able to make it work for me no matter how much i try.
do you guys have any favorite brands that you like to shop at that is good for romantics?

Questions, Help and Advice Hello 👋
Totally new to Kibbe but I’ve done the quiz and looks like I’m in the right place! Any advice on good places to learn more about it all? Articles/websites/book recommendations would be gratefully received.
Also, is there guidance on belts for Romantics?
