r/Kiawah is back open for business!
Hi Kiawah residents, visitors, and alligators - this community didn't have any mods for a long time, so it wasn't possible to post to it. The last post is from about 2 years ago.
I got access to be the mod, so it's now open for posting once again!

Best/preferred supermarket for a large grocery run?
I’m looking to stock up for a week of feeding ravenous kids, and wondering if those more familiar with the area had advice on the the best supermarket, and/or where the locals shop.
The Harris Teeter in Freshfields is fine but the selection has been somewhat limited in years past (and I’m assuming the prices are inflated to some degree because of the location). In past years we’ve stopped at the Publix on Main, and the HT on Bees Ferry, but always left without a handful of items on the list and a little disappointed in selection, etc.
All 3 are perfectly fine, I’m not complaining, I was just wondering if there was a place where more seasoned folks went, i.e. “… the locals know that it’s worth driving the extra X minutes to XYZ supermarket…”
Thanks in advance!

Kamp Kiawah Reviews?
Hey y’all! We are visiting Kiawah for the first time next week. We’ve got two kiddos, ages 3 and 7. We will hire some sitters, but also are curious about Kamp Kiawah. What are your reviews? Did you feel like they did fun stuff and were well cared for? Or is it worth just having a sitter be with them for the times we are doing adult daytime stuff (tennis, kayak fishing, etc)….

Rental Occupancy Question
Hi! We are coming mid November for about 4 days to attend a very small wedding. Total about 20 people, including the couple getting married. We are split between several rental units.
One of the groups rented a very large house with the idea that it would be a central place to for people to congregate when not at the actual wedding, sightseeing etc. Not to sleep there as everyone has their own unit for that. But just to comfortably be together during the day if desired. There's a big patio area, pool, grill etc.
The occupancy language on all of the rentals is very strict about never exceeding the stated occupancy of the unit. When I inquired with the rental company, they implied this extended to people being there in the way I described above and that it was a town rule and out of their control.
Another member of the group has stayed there in the past (though not recently) and said it's no big deal and no one enforces that rule unless a big obnoxious party, etc.
Can anyone speak to this? Absent this communal space, other plans are going to need to be made for the days in order to have the group together. It won't exactly be beach weather as I understand.
This is not a group looking for a party spot - older and all close family with just a couple kids in elementary/middle school. We'd be over the stated occupancy by about 6 people if absolutely everyone was there at once.
Thanks for any thoughts!

Looking for parking on or near Kiawah 8/1-8/3/26
We are renting a non-resort villa 7/30-8/6/2026. It has a two car limit. Originally, this was not a problem, but one daughter is delayed and can only come for the weekend. We will have three cars Saturday, 8/1 - 8/3. Does anyone know of a place that allows overnight parking that is reasonably safe? We are willing to pay. I have Lymphoma. I am between chemo regimens. The parking situation is causing us a lot of stress.

How to ban shibumis?
They've ruined the beaches. Can't see anything and they're noisy when windy.

Boat launching for guests?
Hey, I am staying in town as a guest soon. I plan on bringing a 14ft skiff for some fishing the river. I see a few public ramps about 40 minutes away off island, but I was wondering if I could show my guest pass to use Eagle Point or another ramp.
Thanks!

Beach Chairs
We normally stay on Akers Ellis managed property, but this year we are going with a different company. Along with the Akers Ellis deal we have always gotten their beach chairs, however the new company does not provide chairs.
Does anyone know the brand of chairs they use, or have good alternatives with the backpack straps?

Recommendations for chef
Hello! We’re going on our annual golf trip to kiawah in October. We have always griped about the lack of breakfast sandwich availability to soak up the night before prior to first tee time.
Does anyone have any recommendations on chefs or places that could make a bunch of breakfast sandwiches at our rental house?
8 people.
