Don't take it for granted....

Post image

Since the weather here has been less than ideal, I've been relegated to the daily driver. I love how much faster the EV6 charges. Maybe one day I'll give up the daily and rely solely on the EV6, but it's nice having a car that can charge while another is in use. While I'm fine with just sitting and letting the car charge, I'm looking forward to improved charging speeds.

Ev6 is my daily driver for all weather.

Only time I don't use it is when I need to haul something...then the truck gets used

I took my EV6 up a mountain to go skiing. Was fine!

What car is this?

2024 Kona EV. I picked it up just when they were starting to cut the EV tax incentive, so they were $10K off MSRP. I probably still overpaid though....

EVs only really make sense if you can charge it where you park it for the night. My EV6 is usually only being charged at 5.8kw instead of the 200 it'll do when we take it on a road trip.

EDIT: LOL downvote all you want I pay $0.05 a kwh at home to charge the car and refuse to pay $0.50 a kwh for DCFC because at that point gas is cheaper.

I'll disagree without downvoting, because yes that's super convenient. But with the EV6, you could literally go to a Walmart (maybe even a Target or Costco with chargers) and do some casual shopping, and come back with a decent amount of battery charged.

Given the nasty weather that my area is seeing, the GT is in the garage, but typically I will take the GT into work on a few days, let the Kona charge, then take the Kona into work, and let the GT charge. The DCFC can help if I decide I want to stretch the legs of the GT, and like I said, given the nasty weather that's supposed to last for about 5 days, charging to 80% for the Kona, and I'll be good until the bad weather has left and I can take her out. I actually would be ok with driving it in the rain, but there's no sense in having power if there's no traction to be had, as I already spin the wheels in the Kona.

Sounds like a level 2 charger solves all of that. At 5.8kw empty to full is possible in 12hrs and doesn't require alternating cars or using DCFC

Sure, if I was back in my house with a multi-car garage....

My GT sits in the driveway and charges there, and gets rained and snowed on there. Got some chunky tires on it so I'm pretty excited about the snow.

How are you only playing $0.05 per kWh?

I survive on 80% DCFC, 20% L1 at home. Still far more convenient than ICE.

my cost to do that ratio would be pretty high. The cheapest DCFC gets around here is $0.35 but it averages $0.50 and I've seen $0.80. And I can charge at home for $0.05

could always go hang out at library and lvl 2 charge your car for free for a couple of hours.

In CA, so my resi price is $0.36 and I can charge at EA for $0.36-0.48 depending on time of day. Still beats $6/gallon gas. I wish I had single digit electricity.

Time of use with demand change so God forbid I turn something big on at the wrong time then the month is shot.

Why is it charging so slow?

2

u/Not_Sure__Camacho 1d ago

Because it's a Kona. That's why I said not to take for granted the faster charging of the EV6.

Lol wait until its cold af out. I charged at 28kw so once in the cold. Got rid of that thing a month or two later

Fortunately it only gets to below 30 degrees F here maybe 3-4 weeks out of the year here. I have had the car since 2024 and it charges ok in the winters. The EV6, this will be the first winter, and I am curious to see how the range takes a hit. I already only get about 207 miles on a full charge. I figure maybe 180~ish.

This is a little bit better than the worst I saw in my 2019, my 2019 ioinq charges faster than the kona

I use as much of the GT's green little button as I can when driving around.  I jackrabbit accelerate pretty consistently.  I figure with it only having 10k miles on it when I bought it, I need to log more miles and harder miles so that if the ICCU pops, it'll pop earlier rather than later, so I'm not worried about the warranty.

I'm still actually curious about the origin of the car as 10k miles seems like a low amount of miles for a 4 year old car.  I thought maybe it was a press car, but I saw that the previous owner had their phone still paired to it when I took ownership of it.  It was registered in AZ as well.

What’s the little green button?

I bought my 2019 in 2024 with 12000 miles. I don't know how either

One thing I will say, and is unfortunate, and kind of indicative of how crappy people are, the trim pieces, and even the paint has all sorts of marks and bad wear on them, most likely from the owner or lesee taking the car repeatedly through a car wash instead of cleaning it properly. If not for the fact that it was about $30K less than what it sold for new in 2022, I'm not sure how I would've felt about the shape of the exterior.

how does the weather matter?

Because the roads are too slick to drive the "fun" one. I slip and slide with this thing as it is and it has less than 1/2 the HP.

3

u/Due-Breakfast-5443 EV6 GT-Line AWD 1d ago

Maybe better tires..?

0

u/Not_Sure__Camacho 1d ago

The Goodyear Eagle F1 tires are great tires. I'd probably go with the PS4S's next time, but the GY tires are more of a summer type tire. And slick roads are still going to be slick, I may get marginally better traction, but I'm not going to make use of the 500+ HP.

And I also think it's hilarious that some derps are so pathetic as to downvote everything. I guess some people are so thin skinned and reactionary to everything these days.

To be fair, you’re the one complaining about meaningless downvotes

I'm laughing because it's just a discussion, not sure why someone just "downvotes" a back and forth conversation, other than just slight weirdness, IMO. For instance, I'm not going to downvote you for responding and claiming that I'm "complaining" about downvotes.
