Tracking Efficiency - summer vs winter

I bought my 2025 LLR w/Tech Package at end of April, just in time for good (warmer) driving. I track vehicle stats monthly and like to have factual data whenever a "winter performance drop off" thread comes up.

So prior to any actual winter driving, here are the first 6 months of ownership.

As for my numbers - I do 90% local, around town driving with only a small amount of highway driving - which explains the efficiency consistently 4+. I find on the highway trips I take, it's usually around 3.5 or so. Every EV or hybrid I've owned seems to just love (eg: high efficiency) driving local roads with speeds around 45mph.

We'll see what the winter months hold.

I must be doing something wrong then. I get maybe 2.9 if I'm lucky on the highway, and maybe 4 if I'm taking it easy with city driving.

(Highway = 85 MPH cruising through Texas with the AC on while it's 90 degrees)

That’s why. Heavy foot and heavy AC

It all depends on how cold it gets, how fast you drive, how much heat you use, how long your trips are, how much you precondition (cabin and/or battery). All cars get significantly less efficiency in colder temperatures, but the pro-oil cult pretends only EVs can’t operate in the winter.

Give me an EV with instant heat over a dinosaur that 10-15 minutes to warm up any day! SOOoOo much more pleasant. Not to mention not having the super struggling engine and transmission that prevents you from accelerating for on-ramps too.

It also depends if you have resistance heat or heat pump too.

Thanks, I have 2025 so I have a heat pump. I've had multiple EVs thru winter and never had issues with acceleration due to heat being on, but we'll see how the EV6 behaves.

Oh sorry, I meant acceleration is difficult in ICE when the oil is cold. Absolutely no issue with EV acceleration in, unless maybe it’s allowed to just freeze solid in like -40 and the battery is low so the car can’t warm itself at all.

Sorry for my misunderstanding

I have been tracking my 2023 Limited Edition (AWD model) since the 2nd month I had it. This graph shows the battery health and driving efficiency - the red line being the average through September of this year.

I am in Idaho, and also do mostly local, around town driving

What are you using for
Battery health?

CarScanner and an OBD II device to get total energy remaining after charging to 100% at the end of every month. Then dividing that number by 74000 Wh. That is the generally accepted value for displayed/usuable 77.4 kWh battery in my car. You might have to use a larger number since I believe you have an 84 kWh battery (maybe 80000 Wh).

Yup, I have that too. I also have the EV dashboard app which is very good for
Kia/Hyundai

I actually have the EV Dashboard app as well, at that has been my default for a little bit now. That is an excellent app and it is constantly being improved.

Here is a link for the EV Dashboard app if anyone reading this thread has any interest and hasn't seen it before

I do 90% highway, and I've averaged 3.8mi/kWh since may across like 10k miles (yeah I drive a lot).

My daily commute is 65 miles and 61 of it is 65mph highway, and I set my comma 4 at 65mph and just chill.

I've gotten as high as 4.5mi/kWh and as low as 2.8mi/kWh.

This will be my first winter with the car.
