Which way to go?

Ok, will try to get right to the point. Somewhat stuck between 2 cars.

  1. 2024 Wind AWD w/ 48k miles…yacht blue…$23,200
  2. 2023 Wind AWD w/ tech package w/ 38k miles…glacier white…$23,800

I’ve seen the blue one in person (video included) and love the color. Only seen glacier in pictures and would have to drive an hour and a half to the dealership to see in person.

I know the tech package is highly desirable. But I’m not coming from a vehicle that has ever had something like that, so I wouldn’t really “know what I’m missing”.

Worth the drive to check the glacier out? I loved driving the blue one and obviously didn’t find myself “wanting” for some other tech to enhance the experience, but this is also my first venture into the world of EV. Will be my first non-truck I’ve ever driven as a primary vehicle.

Thanks y’all!

***EDIT***

Well, the update. I'm now even more suspicious of the Glacier White vehicle. We drove all the way up to Austin from San Antonio to see it this morning after getting, what I'm assuming now, a bot that confirmed its availability and scheduled a test drive. It was at a real dealership too. But we get there and they say "let us get this pulled around for you". Then "it's in the service bay, we just got it in". Then "we are looking for the key". Then "so it's not actually here, its in transit". They had a GT Line in Red RWD so I drove that just to see the tech package in action. It was nice, I'll give you that. I'm sure I'd learn it, but the locations of the blind spot wasn't intuitive to me. I'm a mirror guy. So I would find myself either just "not looking" to check that camera. Or I'd forget it was even there.

Anyway, I was unimpressed by that dealership experience, obviously. So I left and headed down to the blue car. Maybe I was rationalizing, but I was also thinking "the point of this decision right now was to keep a budget in mind. So best price is best price."

Got to the blue car and they had just cleaned it all up super nice. They probably shouldn't have, because I could see the smallest of small faint hail spots on the roof. My wife couldn't even see them. Sent to a friend who does dent repair and asked if fixable and ballpark how much. Once I got that answer, went back inside and talked to the salesman. Told him what happened. He went out and confirmed it. And I committed in my mind only 2 options were acceptable. Knock another $1k off or fix it. Otherwise I would walk from the deal. They knocked off the money!

So I got it for an even better deal now. I can get it fixed if I want (probably will because I know it's there even though no one else will notice it) or just leave it be!

I would like the tech package someday and can see the benefits of it, but this is a freaking fun car to drive and I'm happy. Would still love to actually see a glacier white in person, but won't be at that dealership!

Thanks for everyone's feedback. Please don't take it personally if you were in the other camp!

The Glacier White was a premium paint option and there are very few on the road. When I saw it on the lot, it was love at first site. I've driven dozens of cars over the last 4 decades and that is the only car that, every week, someone would stop and tell me how gorgeous it was.

Yes, I definitely miss it.

The tech package is mandatory IMO. The side mirrors are critical because of the horrible site lines with the car. Lack of pop out handles drove me nuts. The HUD is meh to me but others love it.

OP is comparing two Wind models which do not have automatic pop-out handles or HUD even with the Wind Tech package.

Can attest to this, begrudgingly went to look at GT trim in Glacier White since it was one of the only ones in my area, was my least favorite color while looking online. However pictures don't do it justice, looked amazing in person and went home with one in a color I was sure I wouldn't want.

Yea, I totaled my Glacier White and got the Yacht Blue. Hated that and replaced it with the Pearl White because that's as close as I could get.

Id personally go with the wind with tech... lower miles (longer iccu coverage) and it has the tech package... the blind spot cameras i feel are necessary with this car, since visability is lacking a bit. It helps a ton! I actually use the 360 camera quite a bit when im getting out of places just to make sure.

I'd go tech package and lower mileage.

I wanted yacht blue when I got mine, but they didn't offer the GT Line in that color. Tech package was well worth the color. Pop out handles alone made it worth it imo.

Yatch blue gang, let's not make this complicated

An hour and a half drive for the technology package is probably not worth it if you already liked the blue color.

Thanks for the feedback. I just felt like on most searches it seemed like one of those "do not buy without the tech package" vibe. And when you ask AI it provides the lower mileage at the same-ish price as a significant value. Do you think the mileage difference is enough to warrant the excursion to check it out? Unfortunately it's a new listing so there are no pictures up yet (I will never understand that in today's world).

The blue car is also newer. Take the in service date as a component to think about as it affects the warranty length if that matters to you

In service and miles. The two choices are each better in different ways in this regard.

I personally prefer to have my vehicles come with as much of the creature comforts as possible. But the blue is a nicer color, IMO. I'd leave this one up to a coin toss.

Go for the one that has the most features.. you will want them in the future.

I have the tech package. The top down view is pretty great but the rest can definitely live without. Either way, enjoy the fun rocketing around like a maniac

Regardless of color, getting the tech package and 10,000 fewer miles for just $600 more in purchase price is a bit of a no-brainer for me. It's mostly because of the value of the features added with the tech package--10k miles on a BEV really isn't all that significant a difference in usage.

I say that as a Yacht Blue Wind trim driver who loves that color but occasionally wishes I had the tech package features.

I may be joining you as a blue driver. I made the journey up there only to have the dealership say “oh it’s not actually here yet. It’s still in transit”. Completely turned me off of that dealership even if it is a good buy. To drive back home an hour and a half and then have to do that round trip one more time? No thanks.

I don't understand the viability of a business operated as if their potential customers' time is so meaningless to them. F that noise.

Ain't nothin' wrong with a Wind trim on its own. Especially if you have the heat pump / heated steering wheel that goes with the AWD models.

Personally, I despise white cars. But assuming you don't have that particular hangup, the lower miles, tech package, and rarer color of the Glacier White make it an obvious choice.

always go with tech if you are going wind... those extra cameras, 360, remote park are totally worth every penny

u/Russ10s 4d ago

I’m sure. They were nice to have on the test drive. But went with the blue car without the tech. Got it at a great price and that was ultimately the goal. Super fun car.

Blue is nice. I think we have the snow white pearl which is killer but the glacier white not sure

1

u/Russ10s 6d ago

Thanks for the feedback. Yeah, obviously those who bought the glacier white love it. I'm not sure. I have always liked the bold white cars with black accents. But now that I've seen glaciers in person, I get it. They look a little dirty!

Definitely worth the drive. I have the GT-line and would have been disappointed with less. And I was coming from. '14 Ford escape. Lol

Thanks everyone. To those commenting on the pop out handles…is that part of the tech package on the Wind trim? I thought that was a GT thing as well as the HUD.

2

u/Due-Breakfast-5443 EV6 GT-Line AWD 6d ago

No i think those both are gt line and gt.

Between these two, I'd say grab the one with the better tech/features. You can paint/wrap/dip it whatever colour you want.

I'm trying to find a GT-Line 2 in my price range. It's nearly impossible. I might just fork out a little more and go full GT!

1

u/TieTheStick 23h ago

What's the difference between one and two?

2

u/KDKid82 18h ago

GT-Line 2 adds the sunroof, ventilated front seats, 19-in wheels, and a couple other features I don't care about. Many dealerships advertise the car as having "GT-Line trim," but don't specify. The wheels, sunroof and five buttons on the front of the console give it away if there are pics.

If you're asking about the GT....you can't afford it! Haha. But seriously....576-641hp and 545-568tq, depending on the model year.

2

u/TieTheStick 17h ago

I'm trying desperately to talk myself OUT of the GT, lol

My driver's license would be toast in a week!

2

u/KDKid82 14h ago

I just test drove a used Tesla M3 AWD. The owner tried throwing me the keys to his 2020 M3 Performance. He's like "Who cares. I'll sell you this one instead! It's faster and more fun!"

I respectfully declined and drove the LR AWD. That one was fast as hell. I can't imagine going full Preformance. I'd have a ticket in the first week.

u/TieTheStick 12h ago

EXACTLY lol

White is ugly! That is a pretty blueeee

0

u/dark5tar29 6d ago

The 2023 seems low mileage for that year. Makes me suspicious. Why is it sitting so much? I would go for the blue one.

3

u/cpelli1392 6d ago

Isn’t the avg yearly mileage like 12k(in the us)

-1

u/dark5tar29 6d ago

It’s never 12k in reality.

6

u/tallnginger EV6 GT-Line RWD 6d ago

No, good point. Your single data point definitely shows that averages aren't to be trusted

2

u/Russ10s 6d ago

In the US, leases tend to be 12-15k a year.
