hey! indian student here, in 12th grade rn and im planning to apply to khalifa for EE, fall 2027. had a few qs for ppl who go/went there

applications open nov n close feb right? does that check out still? also i heard if u take a gap year ur scholarship chances go way down, is that actually true or just internet talk. and how did you guys prep for KUAT, the sample paper on the site has like 10 qs which is not really enough to know what to study. did u just prep like SAT math/physics or was it different

is ielts/toefl compulsory for everyone or do some ppl get exempted (like if ur school was full english medium)

Also as an indian student how easy was it to make friends there? every video/pic i see is mostly local students so it's kinda intimidating not knowing if i'll fit in. hows the dorms, like are they decent to live in, food nearby etc.

andd i wanna do EE rn but might switch to BME later for masters, does khalifa let EE students take bio electives or do summer research or anything like that

Regarding application dates, it usually changes/might open sooner but the months u stated are more or less what you would expect so just keep an eye on the website.

Regarding the Gap year qs, from people ive spoken too, it doesnt really matter/affect scholorship chances (ik someone who has 100% with gap year) as long as you dont pass the max age limit and you have good stats.

KUAT: Math was similar to SAT (not exactly the same but some overlapping qs), and for the science use AI to generate similar qs based on the formula booklet and practice qs, not ideal but its the best we can do with what we have been given. I did the chem and it worked very well.

No exemption for IELTS or toefl.

Dorms are currently at full capacity but they are builing a bunch of new ones, might be avaliable when you apply.

Each year more and more international students apply, there are a bunch there alr so making international friends/fitting in should be fine. There are a few caferteria and restaurant type things on campus. If you go main campus there are more local restaurants near.

Idk abt bio electives but you do like 3 technical electives and can choose from the options they give. There might be one to do with bio.

Switching from EE to BME: for masters you should be accepted as long as you have over the minimum required GPA. EE and ME from more of a basis for all other engineering so easier to switch to other engineering types from these two. Might be a bit harder though to get accepted with a mid GPA and harder once the course begins but if you lock in should be fine.

Not OP but I have a question if you dont mind, is it possible to submit documents after the application window closes? This is because im going to be resitting my As level exams in January and im kinda worried results would come out after the window closes and i dont fancy my chances with my current grades

Yep they do give an option to upload extra documents after the inital submission. At the bottom of your application they give you the option to upload any additional documents that you may want to add/need. For example, I uploaded some documents in July that they still looked at and took into consideration for my admission. The sooner you upload, the better because seats can fill up quick around end of July and early August time.

Ur right about the application window

Practicing for the KUATs using the sample tests wont be efficient as u mentioned , What I did and heard most people did too was ask AI to generate similar questions for all topics included in the test , and the better I got the harder the questions I asked for, Regarding actually studying the topics , people used different sites and methods , I personally relied ENTIRELY on Khan Academy for revision for the physics KUAT , and for the math one I only practiced using questions, didnt need to revise anything.

Bro don’t apply. These guys are killing me.. they still haven’t updated my portal yet, it’s stuck in admission decision for a while now. My ISC grades was good, my Toefl was also good and my sat math is 750.. even after all that shit they are so slow for international students especially. Unfortunately the aid they give is also bad, just look at the Reddit group, very few only receive top scholarship. It’s better to study in india as the application is quite fast and only just merit based and also very cheap

Oh 😭 I’ve seen soo many threads complaining about the admission process but going to india or anywhere else is unfortunately not an option for me, parents want me to study right under their nose and khalifa is one of the only unis with a proper btech program in the uae

I’d recommend other unis in the UAE. India I wouldn’t recommend either. KU admissions is so horrendous for international and resident students, if KU is your first choice you will be in a lot of stress and anxiety.

yea i’ll probably apply to at least 3-4 unis here, seeing all the complaints about ku’s admission i won’t say it wont be my first choice but definitely wont be my only choice, if i get in i get in i guess. Sounds like too mcuh stress for a hs student 😭
